Just the basic facts...
June 12 1888
Angelo Conti, son of Paolo, 27, peasant resident in Genga, declares that on June 11 a boy was born from his union with an unmarried woman, unrelated to him, and gives him the name Paolo
In the margin: On August 19 1888 Angelo Conti and Filomena Paolucci marry in Genga and Paolo is legitimated as their son

Thank you, Paola. You said this is "just the basic facts" - can you tell me what else is contained in this record? For instance, I see some other names in there. Who are they and what significance did they have?
I very much appreciate your help!

The names at the bottom of the record are the witnesses to the recording of the birth at the town hall. Usually they are no relation to the declarant (in this case the father), and just happen to be available. I can see that both appear to work at the municipal offices.

The name at the top, and the signature at the end, is that of Daniele Taddei, the mayor.
