Thanks for sharing that, MaryMena! Perhaps we will find something...

I was looking for the marriage of Michele's parents, and found a sister of Michele Gramuglia who was born in 1826 - Maria
She is the daughter of Carmine Gramuglia and Antonina Sicari [notice the spelling of mother's surname]
#248 - dated 23 December 1826
Birth on the past night at about 6.
Baptism on 23 December 1826.

AND also found...
Another generation back :-)

The marriage act of Carmine Gramuglia and Antonina Sidari in 1823.
#27 - dated 20 April 1823
Groom: Carmine Gramuglia, 24, laborer; son of Francesco Gramuglia, laborer, and of Vincenza Versace.
Bride: Antonia Sidari, age 18, daughter of deceased Michele Sidari, and of Maria Anselmo.

From the link that MaryMena gave us for LISTS of records -
Here is the index for 1805 births in Bagnara - Line 33 is Antonia Sidari, daughter of Michele Sidari and Maria Anselmo. Birth on 1 July 1805 :-)

And in the birth index for 1799 - line 54 - Carmine Gramuglia
Son of Francesco Gramuglia and of Vincenza Versace. Born on 4 November 1799.

Here is the death certificate of Carmella Severina:

I've been trying to find her parents' marriage act in some comuni around Bagnara but haven't been successful.
Anyway, I'll be in Italy next month to search for the missing documents in person. Any tips or ideas on what I should do, where I should go first, and so on?

Tessa78 wrote: 17 May 2018, 18:58 It puzzles me that I cannot find a Publication of banns of Marriage in Bagnara for the marriage of Carmine Gramuglia and Carmela Severino/Sovarino...
Even if they were married in the hometown of the bride, the banns would need to be posted in the groom's place of birth.
Going through the Pubblicazione records I saw the marriage of Santo Rocco to Domenica Gramuglia, but have not found Carmine. This brings some possibilities to my mind:

1 - the mother's surname on the naturalization card for Michele is incorrect, not just misspelled
2 - the couple was not married in Italy
3 - the couple was never married in a civil ceremony

You say that you have found the death certificate of Carmine in Brazil - have you also tried to find a death certificate for Carmela? Did she emigrate to Brazil with the family? OR was she deceased at the time of their move?

I have checked the marriage and publication records for the towns within which you would find the Severino/a surname - but no success.

What are the names of Domenica's parents?
Father: Domenicantonio(?), 50, braciale.
Mother: Pasqualina ?, filatrice.

Thanks!

Thanks, Tessa!
I am trying to go around to solve the puzzle. I've looked for Carmine and Carmella marriage in a few towns, alongside Bagnara (I've been looking from the year of 1888 to 1896):
Canolo
Gioiosa Ionica (1892 to 1896 so far)
Oppido Marmetina
Palmi
Sant'Eufemia
Scilla
Villa San Giovanni.

Nothing! No information about Carmella's family whatsoever.

On the other front, I am looking for information on Carmine's siblings.
Antonina Gramuglia:
Birth: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
Marriage: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
Death: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

Santo Rocco:
Birth: I haven't found it so far (estimated 1876).
Marriage: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
Death: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

Everything happens in Bagnara, except Santo Rocco's birth (but I could have missed it).
Other than that, I am lost :)

Perhaps it is time to write to the commune of Bagnara Calabra to request their marriage?

Done, let's wait and see. A beginner's questions though: what documents would they have that are different from those available on Antenati?

Not all records are available through the antenati site. Sometimes the records are not organized correctly (marriages appearing among birth images, births among deaths, acts appearing among wrong years, etc.) So we will need to wait and see what the Stato Civile can provide. Perhaps they will provide the Pubblicazione or the Allegati (attachments to the marriage) documents. The allegati would include the births of the spouses, and deaths of parents who pre-deceased the marriage.

The information that would be key here would be where the bride was born. :D
That would be helpful to know.
