Giuseppe Martoccia Death in Laurenzana #22

Post by dita531 »

I recently found a DNA cousin so I'm trying to make the connection and I'm going over my records trying to figure out where he fits in. So I'm going over the death record of my 3rd great grandfather and I have a few questions.

1. On the left under Martoccia, Giuseppe does it say Emigato (emigrant?) Does that mean he didn't die in Laurenzana?

2. "nella casa posta in via Citta Vecchia" What does that mean? Is that where he died?

3. Age - anni settantae ? Does that mean he was 70? I thought he would have been 67..

Thank you so much for any help!

1. On the left under Martoccia, Giuseppe does it say Emigato (emigrant?) Does that mean he didn't die in Laurenzana? The word is "coniugato" meaning that he was married

2. "nella casa posta in via Citta Vecchia" What does that mean? Is that where he died? Yes, at the house on the street called Citta Vecchia - no number given - in the town of Laurenzana

3. Age - anni settantae ? Does that mean he was 70? I thought he would have been 67.. Yes, he was age 70. These ages can be very "fluid"

Thank you so much for any help!

I'm trying to see if I can get any other information from this record. Can someone confirm that it says that his father is Francesco mother is Maria Maddalena Falotica and wife is Rachel Marotta. Does it list any occupations? TIA!

Death registered on 18 February 1881 but died yesterday, (ieri)

Died 17 February 1881, 4.25 pm.
Giuseppe was a contadino (peasant farmer), born and living in Laurenzana, the son of deceased Francesco (Martoccia) and the deceased Maria Maddalena Falotico, and yes, the husband of Rachele Marotta.

(Incidentally, one of the declarants of the death was a Leonardo Falotico, 43 yo, contadino, living in Laurenzano. It doesn't say how whether he is related to the deceased or not, so may or may not be. The other names appearing in the document are the officials, a declarant and the two witnesses to the declaration.)
