Does anyone have information on a San Leonardo parish in Teramo circa 1842? Documents indicate that my ggf was a foundling left at "the wheel" with nothing but 2 cloth strips. I tried searching for it online, but the one I found didn't seem to be operating. In fact it was said to have been abandoned and fallen into disrepair until it was restored in the 1990's.
My ultimate goal is to find out what happened to my ggf. Who took him in? Who raised him? How did he survive? I'm thinking that if I can find the authorities who are the keepers of that parish's records, I could begin my search there.
Thank you.

Re: San Leonardo Parish, Teramo
The care of "Projetti"s was a task of the commune, not of the parishes. In Teramo the "Brefotrofio" was a section of the hospital of S. Antonio Abate.

Re: San Leonardo Parish, Teramo
My grandfather's name was Nicola Di Bartolomei and he married Maria Romani. I know they lived in Tarquinia which is north of Rome. I found out that these two names seem to be prominent in Teramo. I found several births deaths and marriages in Family search some time ago but when I search now they seem to not be searchable. If anyone lives in Teramo and knows anything about these names, perhaps you have them in your own family tree, I would be interested to hear from you. Its just a hunch but my g grandparents may have originated from Teramo. Thanks sylvia

Thank you mmogno for the wealth of information! You are the one who translated the doc stating my bisnonno was a foundling. You have been so helpful. I truly appreciate it.
I had discovered the archiviodistatoteram site about a week ago and sent an email but have not received a response as of yet. And prior to that, I emailed the communes of both Teramo and Castelli asking about the stato di famiglia document but have not received any acknowledgment.
I also did some research on the S. Antonio hospital you provided me. Such a long interesting history. I tried emailing them asking me if they had any suggestions regarding records they may have kept. So far I've only received an automated email telling me they were scaling back tours due to the recent earthquake.
I will try to find time to dig further into the other links you sent. The one seems to concern the entire history of Teramo. That is extremely interesting.
Thank you!

Oops. Just want to make a correction. Tessa78 was the one who actually translated my bisnonno was a foundling. Misread the author. And I appreciate both of you!
