Hello, I am researching my family tree. The surname I am interested in is Bonavolonta otherwise known as Volondo. I am looking for the birth of either my Great Grandfather Giuseppe Bonavolonta (born 1900) or my Great Great Grandfather Pasquale Bonavolonta (born abt 1871), both born in Italy. My Great Great Granfather married (abt 1893) my Great Great Grandmother Giuseppina Maietta, born abt 1870. I am also interested in her birth certificate. I would like to find out where my ancestors are from in Italy.
My Great Great Grandmother and Grandfather moved to London with their 2 children Harry and Giuseppe abt 1902, I cannot find the passenger list or any information of where they were in Italy.

Pasquale died in London in the fall of 1936. Have you tried getting his death record? I don't know much about them in the U.K., but here in the U.S. it would have his place of birth. His death is recorded as Southwark District, Vol. 1d, page 52.
By the way, I notice that in addition to Marigliano, that surname appears in nearby Acerra, province of Caserta, including a Giuseppe born in 1901. Acerra does have online records that you can access.

Re: Looking for a birth certificate
I ordered both Pasquale and Giuseppina's death records but they did not state where in Italy they were born. The spelling of the surname is different to what I thought- Buonavolonta instead of Bonavolonta. Does anyone know why there are two spellings for this surname? I have also seen on a census my GG grandparents shortened their surname to Volondo.
What makes Marigliano a probable birth place? Does this town have records I can access?
Thanks,

Re: Looking for a birth certificate
There are many reasons for discrepancies in the spelling of names, especially with people who could not read or write. A lot of times names were written how they sounded. There can also be errors when things get copied from one record to another. I have a certificate that has the same person's name spelled two different ways. In a one cemetery, my ancestors names are spelled about five different ways.
It was also common when people immigrated that their names changed. They could have made the change themselves to sound more like the names from their new country, or it was changed by the person recording their arrival who had no idea how to spell a name from another language.
To me, it sounds like one was an error when the "U" was taken out, because you would spell buona with a "u", and the other was probably for the to be more like the English names, easier for them to pronounce, or was just noted that way and stayed that way.
