Mariano Saponara

Post by mjclayton1 »

Hello, Forum-

(early) Happy New Year to All...

I was wondering if someone could give me a comprehensive translation as to the Birth Record for Marianao (di) Saponara. The record and Antenati link are from the comune of Saponara, Messina, Siciliy (Nati year 1827, IMMAGINI 36 and 37):

http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 3.jpg.html

Record No. 33
Date: 2 May 1827, before Giuseppe Gangemi, mayor and town official of Saponara, district of Messina, appeared Maria Forestiere, age 42, weaver, domiciled ______ of this town, according to which was recognized and declared that on the same day at 6:00 AM she found in the place _______ under the office of Maria (?)...............

Can someone fill in the blanks as to the subsequent text, leading all the way up to and thru the following page?

I understand that Mariano was a foundling (I see the word "projetto" on the second page of the record). I'm also interested to see what, if any, connection exists between the baby and the Maria Venuto woman noted on that second page. In the tree I'm looking at, a Maria Venuto, born ca. 1814, has a daughter - Teresa Pino, born in 1836 to her and husband Antonino - who actually married Mariano (Sep 1856). Maria's mother is also a Foerestiere, so theres that possible connection, too.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

Mark

Happy New Year. I hope this is not confusing to you, as I've jumped back and forth between Italian and English-

Date: 2 May 1827, before Giuseppe Gangemi, mayor and town official of Saponara, district of Messina, appeared Maria Forestiere, age 42, weaver, domiciled (nel vico dei Maiorani)* of this town, who presented to us a male, whom we immediately recognized by looking at him, and declared that, on this same day, at 6:00 AM, she found in the place denominato (called or named) “la Cona”, located below the office of Maria Addolorata, precisamente vicino l’ospizio dei riformati dei Padri Calvasmo(?) (precisely near the home or hospice of the reformed Calvin(?) Fathers), un bambino nato di fresco (a baby recently born) quale sembrava esser stato abbandonato dagli autori dei suoi giorni (the one who seemed to be abandoned by the authors of his days), involto in alcuni cenci senza macchia apparente cifra segno o lettera che la stessa ci presenta (bundled in some rags without apparent mark, initial, sign, or letter that the same one (referring to the declarant) was presenting to us.

Noi uffiziale dello stato civile (Our civil state official) dopo di aver visitato il fanciullo anzidetto (after having visited the above stated young boy), abbiamo riconosciuto in presenza della dichiarante esser maschio senza segno alcuno sul corpo dell’eta apparente di un giorno (we have recognized, in the presence of the declarant, to be male, without any sign on his body, (and) of the apparent age of one day).
abbiamo indi ordinato che fosse consegnato a Maria Venuto ricivetrice dei proiettiil fanciullo anzidetto a cui si e dato il nome di Mariano di Saponara (we have thus ordered that he be consigned to Maria Venuto, receiver of the aforementioned young foundling boy, to whom is given the name Mariano di Saponara. .....

* I haven't had any success in finding out if this was a district, hamlet, alley, or lane in the town

BTW, I found that there is currently a zona Maiorani in the town and, in the link below, that Maiorani was one of the 10 frazioni (hamlets) of the town (page 1415)

Also a correction-

Hi Erudita- Happy New Year to you as well. I hope you enjoyed the recent holidays...

Thanks for looking at this for me. I would’ve responded sooner, but didn’t see a response right away, so I haven’t checked back in at the site until just now. Anyway, I’ve read your response, but only briefly so (during lunch... and also only while using my iphone), which means I’d like to look at it more closely this evening.

I may have more feedback/questions at a later time, but in the meantime thanks again.

Hi Mark
Yes, we did enjoy holiday time with family, but it went by too fast.

I assumed you were working, and that's why you hadn't previously acknowledged my reply. If you need anything else, I know you won't hesitate to ask. Always happy to help you.
