Meaning of alas "imbolao"
I have encountered an "alias" entry in my ancestor's death record, and I am unable to transcribe it but believe it is "imbolao." Some say the word is occupational meaning "packer." The live image is here http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 32_01963.j… . And I have uploaded a screen print. T

Re: Meaning of alas "imbolao"
I think your link is not all there, so I can't see the document and can't tell where your ancestor is from. In Tuscan dialect "imbolare" is an archaic verb meaning to furtively steal something. I hate to say it, but in that context an imbolaio might be a thief. In Sardinian it means to throw or throw out. I'm not sure what how that might be turned into an occupational word. If it is actually imbolao or imbolaio, it is probably a word in a regional dialect, so it would likely help to know where he died.
