margin note on birth record, foundling acknowledgement?

Post by anzuena »

Hello -

My great grandfather was born on May 12 1884 in Gambatesa, and as a foundling was given the name Pomponio Mariani. From what I've been able to tell so far, his birth was later acknowledged (February 1904?) by his birth father. I've found the original document, and believe the detail is in the margin note at lower left of the left page.

If anyone is able to translate the birth record, or even just the margin note, I'd be very grateful. Link is below. Many thanks -

Joe

Yes, he was recognized by Nicolamaria Anzuini in Feb 1904, as stated by a Notarial deed by The Italian Consul in Montreal

The communication received from Montreal was transcribed in the register of births for year 1904.
Unfortunately year 1904 is not available on Antenati site, and can only be seen at a Family History Center on Family Search.

mmogno - thank you! How were you able to find the information to know it's that specific record?

Are you able to see it? If so, would you be so kind as to provide a link or point me in the direction where I could find it?

Again, thank you for your help!

The records on the antenati website for the town only go to 1903. For the 1904 record referenced by mmogno, you'd have to go to a local family history center to locate it on their computer.

Thank you so much, Erudita. I'm glad to confirm that at a Family History Library I'll be able to see it. I'm intrigued that mmogno knew the record number - the only way I've personally been able to identify record numbers has been on the index pages once I've identified the year in question. With the Antenati website only going through 1903 as you said, my guess is that mmogno may have a copy of that index page from a prior search. In any case, I'm definitely headed to a FHL to learn more!

Do you happen to know if the Consul in Montreal might also have kept records - and if so, if those records are available online?

Thank you very much for your help, I appreciate it.

The record number appears in the margin of the birth record as N.4 seconda parte

I don't know anything about the consul in Montreal, sorry.

Aha! I didn't realize that mmogno was amending/completing PippoM's translation, I thought it was a new note. That makes sense now. No problem about Montreal, and thank you again for taking the time to help me.

Erudita - we were able to find the document. I wonder if you might have the time to take a look and share what it says?

Please forgive the strange formatting; my father was able to get to a Family History Center, but they could neither print nor save, so he took a series of cell phone photos. He sent them to me, and I stitched them together using layout software.

We know that Pomponio's father was Nicolamaria Anzuino. We *think* that his mother was Maria di Mauro - at least that's who he noted his mother to be on his Social Security application. Maria Incoronata Colavita, named in this document, is who Nicolamaria married in 1899.

We'd be grateful to learn anything this document contains, and again sincerely appreciate the help already given by you and @mmogno in pointing our family toward this record's existence. Thank you -

Joe

Going to start a new thread as this is a new document. I've transcribed most of it and have translation for most of it, I think...
