I am looking to fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle for the years 1400-1800. Could someone help me get started researching the notarial records of Sicily?
What I would like help with is where exactly I can find them (Are they available online? Held only in archives in Sicily? Not available to the general public? etc.)
I research mainly records in Castiglione di Sicilia, so I am guessing that the Notary would have covered towns in Catania and possibly Messina too. How do I go about learning which Notary/Notaries may have covered this town say in the 1400 or 1500s? Thank you for your help!

Re: Notary records
The Archivio di Stato should have a section marked 'il patrimonio' which is often searchable and should include notary records. These are not usually on line and not easy to search as they are often not indexed.
You will be surprised at how many notaries there were in those days!

Re: Notary records
Thank you! Based on your advice, I found this entry of what I believe to be indices of Notarys working in Catania since 1415: http://www.archivi-sias.it/Scheda_Compl ... =300082208
I am not sure what I need to do next. Do I need to create an account so that I can log in? Or, is there some way to view these online?

Re: Notary records
SIAS is just an on line inventory as far as I know. It allows researchers to pre-order the documents they need so they can begin their search on arrival at the archives (in person)
Sounds like you need a vacation in Sicily!
