Where was my grandfathers family from

Post by brummy »

Hello, I have lots of information about my grandfather Magno Campone, g grandfather Celeste Campone and my gg grandfather Angelo Campone, all thanks to marisa6 but I am still not sure where abouts they were born in Italy and where they grew up.
My grandfather Magno Campone came to Scotland with his parents and later married Carolina Palombo from Picinisco there is a fair chance the Campone's came from Picanisco also but I do not know definately. Can anyone help me

If you have any record of them like passport, ship manifest, naturalization record, social security number, marriage application and record, death record and cemetery record, then you can find a lot of informations in there.
At least try to contact Picinisco civil record office

Comune
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Piazza Capocci 1
03040 Picinisco (FR)
Italy

Hi Brenda

Welcome to the best italian genealogy forum - with the best people - around!!

Now for everyone some dates and places.

Maria 'Carolina' PALOMBO born 31 May 1880 Picinisco. Parents Giuseppe PALOMBO (09 March 1833 Picinisco - 30 March 1895 Glasgow) and Maria FORTUNA (about 1846 - 26 March 1900 Glasgow) married -

Magno CAMPONE born about 1876 in ?. Parents Celeste CAMPONE (Bet. 1838/40 - 16 December 1916 Dundee) and Angela COLAMATTEO.

We do not know where Magno was born, although Picinisco is a strong possibility

Magno and Carolina had at leat fiftenn children, and possibly a couple more. We think that two of the daughters emigrated to the US, and so there is family in the states.

Brenda - can you remember the names of the sisters?

love

Hi just a bit:
starting from Colamatteo mother surname of Magno Campone, I think that they came from Colle San Magno (Frosinone province/Lazio region); in this town is most used Magno first name, because the patron saint is just San Magno (saint Magno), and no most used in Italy this first name, so usual only in the town with this saint devotion!
also Colamatteo surname is very rare and is present in Colle San Magno town...
starting from this my idea, I'm sure that this is a good possibility, I think also that you can request the Magno Campone birthact in Colle San Magno, and you can send the request here by Major email available:
sindaco @ comunecollesmagno.org NO SPACES
hoping helpful, suanj

Suanj - You are a genius! I hadn't thought of Colle San Magno, although I had noticed a few Campones from there.

Thank you. I'm sure Brenda will want to try that.

Hello Suanj and Marisa.
Thank you so much it all seems logical doesnt it, I can't wait to get "into it"
It is 6.30am Tuesday here in Australia, I guess you are all getting ready for bed there.
Bye the way, will it be ok to email in English? and can tell me roughly on the map where Colle San Magno is.

Hi Brummy,

No, you should write in Italian. You can compose it in English & I'm sure suanj or another Italian member will translate it for you.

Here is a link to a map for Colle San Magno.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?fo ... o&zipcode=

Hope this helps. :)
