Marriage of Giuseppe Martoccia and Barbara Rachele Marotta

Post by dita531 »

Hello! I'm super excited i found this document online. I was trying to access these records via FamilySearch at a library and wasn't having much luck due to the lack of indexes.

So this is the wedding of my 3rd great grandparents and I'm trying to confirm names, ages, locations and occupations and also if the parents are living or dead.
One thing that is a little odd is that in birth records of their children the mother is always Rachele Marotta or Maria Rachele but never Barbara.

So far I have:
9 June 1835 or 10 Jun 1835

Giuseppe Martoccia age 32 born in ? , a shepard son Francesco a ? living in ? and Maddalena Falotico

Barbara Rachele Marotta age 19 born in Laurenzana, daughter of Rafaele a ? living in ? and Mariangela D'Emilio

Date of the solemn promise made at the town hall is June 9, 1835. The actual marriage took place in the parish church of the town on June 10th.

Giuseppe Martoccia was age 32, born in this town, a shepherd living on Strada del Prato. He was the son of Francesco (Martoccia),also a shepherd, who was living with his son, and Maddalena Falotico, who was living there.

Barbara Rachele Marotta was age 23, born in the town, living there on Strada della Taverna. She was the daughter of Rafaele (Marotta), a shoemaker, living with his daughter, and Mariangela d'Emilio, living there.

Page 1-right column-two witnesses at the celebration of the marriage in the parish church were Rocco Romanella and Francesco Volino.

Page 2-notification of this promise was posted on the door of the town hall on Sunday May 10th of the current year and resulted in no opposition to the upcoming marriage.

Page 3-documents provided by the couple for their marriage

1. birth act of the groom
2. birth act of the bride
3. death act of the of Rosa di Luccio, wife of the groom (her death resulted in the dissolution of his first marriage)

The parents of the spouses were present to give their consent to the marriage.

Last page-witnesses to the solemn promise to marry at the town hall

1.Don* Giuseppe (Maria-this middle name is abbreviated in his signature at the end of the record) Spaziante. He was age 40, and a doctor of physics living on Strada Nunciata

2 Rocco d'Emilio, uncle of the bride, age 33, a carpenter living on Strada Settica

3. Michele Sollitto, uncle of the bride, age 46, shoemaker living on Strada San Giorgio

4. Rocco Romanelli, age 46, a barber living on Strada del Canaglione

The father of the bride and the four witnesses signed the document at the bottom. The spouses, parents of the groom, and the mother of the bride were all illiterate and did not sign.
