Stabile, Rocco, Bilardo and Columbo

Post by cathjon240 »

I am new to this as well. I am having trouble finding census information for 3 of my grandparents - Michael Stabile, his wife Antonia. So many of the same names of Michael Stabile, Antonia Stabile or Rocco on the immigration sign in sheets. I just dont know what to do next.

I was able to find my grandfather Joseph Bilardo WWI Military record and his town caropeppe, valguarnora, Sicily. Now what do I do with that informatiom, how do I find HIS father, and mother?

All 4 of my grandparents originated in Italy somewhere. Both my parents passed away in the last 5 years and I regret not writing this down then.

Hi,

Could you please provide birth years or at least approx. years and also where they lived in the US? Names of their children and their birth years?

Can you link the WWI Military record that you found for Michael?

Is Rocco, Antonia's maiden name?

See if this works it is the WWI record for Joseph Bilardo my grandfather.

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse. ... &indiv=try

Michael Stabile died Aug 4, 1970, his wife died around 1952. Both from Cleveland, Ohio.

Joseph Bilardo, Ida Columbo Bilardo both from Cleveland, originally from Sicily. My great grandfather was Salvatore Columbo i believe was his name.

Rocco is maiden name for Antonia who was married to Michael Stabile. I do not know how to go back any further to find their parents, which would be amazing to know their towns of origin.

Apply for naturalization as this may list detailed info including parents names......you have the town of origin(for at least one of them) which is a plus in obtaining records from Italy.

There are only two ways in which to discover the town of origin......one is a ship manifest, the second is to apply for anything that may list their birthplace, any type of application or record such as you did with the draft application...marriage, birth, death, soc. sec. app., church records such as marriage and baptism........have you pulled any records at all?

The census is nice as it gives you a timeframe of immigration and naturalization, an idea of birthyear , as well as putting the family into context.......but it will not list town of origin or maiden names.....

Once you have put together US documentation, then you can begin the process of research in Italy.......

In order to understand the process of record keeping in Italy and research methods I highly recommend the book "Italian Genealogical Records" by Trafford R. Cole.......you won't be disappointed......it is the Bible of Italian research......

hope this helps....

This is only a possibility for Joseph...age is right, list father as Salvatore,
mother as Maria Galanti, and town fits...but he is going to NY to join his father......line 13,

Are you referring to the information provided by Riccardo about the LDS films?

If yes, the LDS films can be ordered & then viewed at your local LDS-Family History Center. They cost abt. $5.50/5.75 each & you can view them for abt a month & reorder if you need time.

Here is a link to find your local FHC:

Hope this helps.
