Gagliardi / Malfetta

Post by darkorchidz »

I might be spelling things wrong so forgive me. I decided this morning I would really like to try to see if I have any family out there. So this is what I know and if anyone who comes across this knows something or has a good idea for me to begin, please say something.

My mother I believe was born Prudence Barbara Ann Gagliardi
Her parents were Rose n Michael. My nana's whole name was Rosa Maria Malfetta. My grandfather was Michael Angelo.

I was told that they lived somewhere near NYC. My mom grew up in Manhatten.

I know I have great aunts and what not in florida but have no idea if any of them are still alive or how to reach them.

I was told that our family came from Naples and Bary. My mom said she was first born over here.

That sums up everything I know about my family history. I have one picture of my great grandmother, but it is in very poor shape.

Any help would be great. Thank you

:( Will be kinda hard to do as I am NOT close to my mom n she NEVER will talk about her family. She once told me her Aunt mailed her this whole giant family history thing n she tore it up. I was so devastated to say the least. So I guess there is bad blood there.
When I tried looking at Ellis Island records it came back with 2107 gagliardi's. I have no idea what any of my grandfathers family names were or if he had any. I know my Nana had like 13 sisters n brothers.
Everyone called my Nana,...Rose.

She lived in Manhatten for the longest time. The projects behind Lincoln center. She moved at some point to Florida. Tampa Bay I think. She died sometime in 2000. Late 2000 I believe. Her Madian name was Malfetta. I have no idea how old she was.
I have an Aunt Betty somewhere. Elizabeth? I think.

believe me I wish I knew more, wish I had some dates or time frames. But the only times my mom has talked about anything was to tell me a story about getting ice with her grandfather to keep food cold. Would not help with this. :)

I found a site about Bari

http://www.rootsweb.com/~itappcnc/bari/

Came back with:
MOLFETTA Acquaviva delle Fonti
MOLFETTA Palo del Colle

This would be about my Nana. The search did not bring anything back for Gagliardi. Though there was nothing to click on. I did however email the people listed as researchers. Doesn't hurt to try right.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I had it all wrong would seem. So thank you to everyone so far who has tried helping. Called mom n pleaded for help, lied n said it was for a school paper.
This is what I know now...........

My Nana was Rosirea Molfetta Born in Hoboken NJ, Nov 30th either 1917 or 18. Was the 17th child out of 18 that lived.

Her mother was Prudencia Balestra, born in Bari Italy. Her family were farmers. She married when she was 13ish. Moved here shortly there after. They bought property in what is now Flushing Meadows, Queens, NY. She never learned English.

Francisco Molfetta was her husband. He did learn English, had a nice business going I guess. Stayed farmers over here, goats, chickens, apples etc, sold ice to people.

What my mom said about her father:

Angelo Michael or Michele Angelo Gagliardi . Thinks he was born around January 1st. Was a mason n made Jewerly. He was either 18 or 28 years older than my nana. Had been married n granted a divorce priar to nana, to a woman named Sadie on the grounds she was barren n could not have children. Mom said he was Born in Italy, she believes Naples. He died in a veterans Hopsital when she was 2. Was in world war 2, US Army.

His father was Alberto or Albert Gagliardi

Working on finding my aunt who might have more info as well.

WOW! OH MY, you really have been. I don't know what to say, just woke up n I think my brain isn't on yet. :)

I had great Aunts named Sabina, Mary, mom thought there was an Angela n Pauline in there as well. It all seems on the money.

I don't know about the great uncle.

I will call my mom at a decent hour and see if strikes a bell or another memory. What can I do to find more? I feel sorta bad you guys are helping so much and anything I have tried so far hasn't even brought back as much as you guys have found. It means alot to me, thank you. Any thing you want to tell me to do I will try.
