Marriage record help

Post by jml1991 »

The attached 1669 marriage record from Prizzi, Sicily, has the dates of the banns, but no month or day for the actual marriage. Any thoughts as to why? What does the handwritten text in the first paragraph mean? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This must a be a transcription of an old record.
In fact, this kind of registers must be of the end of XIX-start of XX century.
Maybe the original record had no date, or the date could not be read, or it might just be a mistake by the person who copied it down.
About the handwritten text, what line do you mean?

Hi Pippo,

Yes, you are absolutely correct -- I believe the transcription was done in the early 1900s.
The handwritten text I was referring to is in the third line of the record, following the word "detector".

Thank you!

"traditis litt(eris) auth(orizationis) de can(oni)ca libertate sponsorum in opp(ido) Planae Grecorum commorantium"
I'd say "after receiving the letters of authorization about the canonical freedom of the spouses, living in Piana dei Greci" (but I might be wrong)
