Seeking death record for Francesco Gargano

Post by kmgargano »

Hello, I'm hoping to have some help finding my greatx3 grandparents death records. I have searched available records on Antenati up until 1865, and searched the card catalogue on FamilySearch for records between 1866-1910. It's very possible I missed their names, but I have tried my best to be thorough. I have no knowledge if they passed in Italy or the US if they immigrated.

Francesco Gargano
born 1826 Sant'Arsenio, Salerno, Italy
parents Arsenio and Margarita Pessolano

Rosa Reciniello
born 1832 Sant'Arsenio, Salerno, Italy
parents Francesco and Anna Gentile

They had five children I am aware of, Margarita, Angela, Arsenio, Maria and Giuseppe (my great-great grandfather). Giuseppe was the last child born (to my knowledge) in 1872. He married in 1896 and neither of his parents are listed as deceased on his marriage record.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Was Giuseppe married in Italy or USA?

If Italy, can you post the link to the record?

Based on the information provided in the birth act of Giuseppe Gargano in 1872 (#117)
Francesco Gargano was age 40 - so born about 1832
Rosa Reciniello was age 38 - so born about 1834.

Marriage notation for Giuseppe and Margharita Amabile on 18 June 1896.

Here is the link to the Publication of banns - as you stated, Francesco and Rosa are living.

Giuseppe was married in Sant’Arsenio, Italy in 1896 as you noted. I only have the image of their record and I’m having trouble uploading it with the post :(

I have the birth records for Francesco and Rosa. Francesco was born Feb 18, 1826 and Rosa Jan 18, 1832.

Thank you. I found them and posted Francesco before I saw your post :-)

There are many years/records missing in the death acts for Sant'Arsenio from 1896-1910. You may wish to write directly to the Comune to request the deaths. Give them a range of 5 years to search.
Send YOUR photo ID and an email address. Do not send money with your letter of request. They will contact you if they wish you to pay for copying and mailing.

Address:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Piazza Europa, 1
84037 Sant'Arsenio (SA)
ITALY

Thank you, I think this is the best option I have at this point. I've never written to Italy before - do you find they respond to the request?

It depends on the town. Some respond quickly, some take several months, and some do not respond at all. Condition of records, availability of employees, and time of year make a difference. Do not expect a response during the month of August. Most businesses and offices are closed, or on very limited hours.
