Italian Tartan!

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

Italian Tartan!

Post by Marisa6 »

Hi Folks

Just as a point of interest. :D

To celebrate the immense cultural influence of the large Italian community in Scotland, there is now an officially recognised Scots-Italian tartan. The green, white and red of the Italian flag is incorporated on an azure blue background representing the Mediterranean. I now have my very own tartan scarf representing my Italian 'clan', of which I am very proud! So - next tartan day, Italians do not need to feel left out :D :D

Hmm - I keep getting an upload error message. I have tried jpg and gif extensions, both of which are supported, and I've reduced the file size to under 40k. What am I doing wrong?

I've fed it through Fuji finepix to crop and reduce the size. I'll try Adobe to export it to a different file format! My horns are coming out....

Marisa,

Scan it to your computer and save on your desktop. Then try using imageshack. Go to host it. Then browse, open the file and then upload. When it shows the options, copy and paste in the forum (I usually use the last link). Let me know if this works.

No problem Marisa,

It took a while for me to figure out how to use imageshack but after playing with it I figured out much out it. This is how we are able to link census and other things to the forum.

The tartan is nice. Thanks for sharing it.

I sent you a PM!

This is the Italian Scots tartan designed by Mike Lemetti of Falkirk, Scotland.
He's a friend of mine and I own a few kilts and accessories.
My only objection is too much use of the colour blue. It represents the House of Savoia - a monarchy voted to be exiled from Italy in 1946. Also, Savoia is now Savoie and part of France.
A more Garibaldini tricolore would have been preferred.

Blue - for the monarchy
green/white/red - Italy's flag
gold - the Vatican
black - Ancient Rome's Pretorian Guard
- make up the colours of this tartan
Fabi - The Italian Celt

One of my talents is/was weaving under the supervision of the last of the accomplished nuns at Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. I happened to weave very fine wool tartans which we still use at home for those nippy naps!!

I like those colors you mention Italo Glaswegian since I made one with black, red and grey tartan of my own design. Now you have piqued my interest. As soon as I win the next big lottery I am building a home with an imported Finnish weaving machine (the silent kind) in my weaving room. Finding fine wool is the fun part and expensive. Thanks so much for the memories!! =Peter=
