Birth + Marriage Records from Mendicino

Post by mnaccarato »

Hello! Continuing to work on my translations - can I get a fact check please? This is the birth record of my 2nd great grandmother and the marriage record of my 2nd great grandparents.

Carolina Gaudio Birth Record
CarolinaGaudioBirthRecord.jpg
Act #61. Dated June 5, 1859. Appeared Domenico Gaudio, 30 years old, farm laborer (believe it says bracciale), domiciled in Mendicino, [contrada ?], who presented us a female child which we have recognized, and he declared that child was born of the declarant and of Caterina [last name? Farsaelo?], 30 years old, his legitimate wife, at 10 in the morning [mattina alle ore dici, correct?] in the house [disarditagine?]. The same has further declared to give to the child the name of Carolina.

The presentation and declaration aforesaid was made in the presence of Michile Filippelli, 60 years old, tailor, domiciled in Mendicino, land Piazza and of Pasquale Baca [i think?], 70 years old, [profession?], domiciled in Mendicino, contrada [Puditta?], witnesses present at this act that the declarant produced.

Indication of the day in which the Sacrament of Baptism was administered. #62. Dated June 6, 1859. The parish priest of the church of San Nicola. Administered yesterday (nel giorno di iere).

Luigi Naccarato + Carolina Gaudio Marriage Publication (Intent to Marry)

#22. August 20, 1881. Before me appeared, Luigi Antonio Naccarato, single, 24 years old, farmer, residing in Mendicino, son of Pasquale, 56 years old, farmer, resident in Mendicino, and son of Rosaria Greco, farmer, resident in Mendicino, And appeared Carolina Gaudio, single, 22 years old, farmer, resident in Mendicino, daughter of Domenico Gaudio, 52 years old, farmer, and daughter of Caterina [last name? Farsaelo?], farmer, resident in Mendicino.

They asked me to do the publication of the marriage that this office intends to celebrate of Luigi Antonio Naccarato and Carolina Gaudio, and they told me that the groom was born in Mendicino and the bride was born in Mendicino. They have lived in Mendicino for a year now.

What does it say in the hand-written paragraph at the bottom?

Nice job! :-)

Birth act...
Mother's surname is Furgiuele. Found in Mendicino.
Birth in the "house of residence" (abitazione)
First witness resides Contrada Piazza, as does the second witness.
The second witness's surname is Barone. He is a shopkeeper who lives also Contrada Piazza (as above said)

Marriage Act...
The written paragraph indicates that the birth acts provided by the spouses state Nacarato was born 10 January 1857, and Gaudio was born 5 June 1859.
The parents of the spouses were present to give their consent.
Right column shows publication of banns of marriage on 21 and 28 August, and 1 September.

Awesome, thanks Tessa! For my own knowledge, When it says, "They have lived in Mendicino for a year now," is that just confirming that in order to file with this commune they have to have resided in it for at least one year? So, they could have been living in Mendicino longer than a year, yes?

You will notice that the section of the record that you are referencing is part of the standard form. It actually states that the spouses have resided "a year and a day" in the town.
Yes, they could have lived in Mendicino for many years prior to this marriage.
