Missing marriage certificate-Philadelphia Consulate

Post by Jbudd_Fulg »

Hello,
We are seeking citizenship though a great grandfather, born in Italy. He was married here in Philadelphia in 1920. City Hall can locate the marriage license application but the completed license and certificate was never returned. We tried to locate it thorough the Church and the Archdiocese, but the church where they were married had a massive fire in the 1970's (St. Monica's). It is believed by the church that the records likely burned. Our appointment is coming up next month.

What should I bring?

Census?
We have a wedding photo. Bring that?
Should I bring a certified copy of the application even though it is missing the important part showing they were actually married?

All birth certificates list the correct people.

Any assistance is appreciated-especially with the Philadelphia Consulate

In case anyone has the same issue, Philadelphia did NOT require the marriage certificate and license. We were able to establish the "line" without it.

Wow, that's pretty amazing. I am in the same situation but not Phila consulate. What documentation did they find to be sufficient?
