Act of Recognition - translation needed

Post by carolc »

With the help of Italian Genealogy "masters" I learned that a family member, Nicolo Gelsomino was a foundling later claimed by his real mother, Anastasia Cappuccio. If someone can please translate the doc below that would help me learn more about her story. It doesn't need to be a word for word translation, but enough to understand her story and that of the baby.

Thank you,

Act dated 1866 Nov 28

Anastasia Cappuccio, daughter of the late Saverio, resident in this town on strada Oturo (?), 53 years old, peasant, who, in this place, in accord with article 53 of the decree 15 Nov 1865, has stated that she has never contracted marriage, and who is nevertheless free from this bond, and that in the eighteen hundred and forty-seven, precisely on the night of July 5 of that year, gave birth to a male child who was left in the foundling wheel of this town, and who was collected by the holy receivers and on the morning of 7 July was given the name of Nicola Gelsomino by the Mayor of the town. The declarant recognizes this child as her natural child and gives her surname to him. He is henceforth renamed Nicola Gelsomino Cappuccio.

I should have added: the text above is the main idea in the body of the act. The margin note is just shorthand for the same. There is a lot of referencing different acts/laws that allowed Anastasia to come and declare this later in the main document, which contributes to its length.

Hope that helps!
