Help translating Italian Birth Registration for Foundling Child

Post by lissa2973 »

Hi there,

Wondering if someone could help tease out some of the information on this record (I believe it is my great, great grandmother). Notably, where the child was found (in a "wheel," but is there anything more specific about which home/church it was in?) The condition of the baby or remarks about the child? Any tokens left with the baby? Potential mention of parents or guardians? I see names listed, but not sure of the association to the child.

This is one of those stories that was passed down through the generations, but with much embellishment (we suspect) and would love to know the real story.

I've run what I can through Google Translator, but I can't decipher all of the lettering. Hoping someone with a familiarity with the Italian language can help with the nuances.

Thanks!

And this is the link in Ancestry, as I see the screenshot is not the best quality:

Thanks very much--would be appreciative of any help with this, even if it's bits and pieces. :)

Thank you! I ran this through Google Translator, and it was very helpful.

I'm afraid I have more questions, though. :)

I am unclear on the role of Petronilla Manzo--seems she was the midwife, yes? Did she simply drop the baby off at the wheel? Or was she also the guardian, in effect?

Petronilla was the Receiver [ricevitrice] at the wheel of the abandoned.
Some information about the wheel here:
