Letter to Italy to request birth cert. -- please check
I am sending an email to my GGF's comune (Savoia di Lucania) to request his birth certificate, however I do not know Italian.
I pieced together a message from a couple internet resources, this forum, and Google Translate. Could someone please check it for legibility and intent?
Egregio Signore, Gentile Signora,
I will attach to my email a scan of my ID, a scan of my GGF's entry in the comune's Atti Di Nascita log (from FamilySearch.com) and-- just to be extra thorough-- the "ACS-certificato-nascita" form from the US embassy's web site. Do I need to mention these attachments in my message, or do you think it will it be kinda obvious that I attached them and why?
Any other tips? Anything else I'm missing?
Thank you so very much for your help.

Hello,
I am reading your post from a few years ago.
My grandfather, Frank Faruolo, was the brother of Giuseppe Faruolo. My great grand parents were Michele Faruolo and Rosa Zapata Zarla Fiore from Savio di Luciana.

Hi, Edward. Thanks for your message.
My great-grandfather, Giuseppe Faruolo, was born 1889 August 02. I know that he had a brother named Rocco but I am unaware of any other brothers. Giuseppe's parents were Michele Faruolo and Sabata Sagarese.
Do you have Frank's and/or Michele's birthdate? I'm curious to find out more!
With an Italian relative's help, I was able to get my GGF's birth record and apply for citizenship jure sangunis in 2018. There are still several Faruolos in Savoia di Lucania. We had planned to visit next month, but with the pandemic I'm not sure when we will be able to go.
Thanks again!

Re: Letter to Italy to request birth cert. -- please check
Hi! Yes, I do have a lot of the information. My grandfather Frank Faruolo was born in NYC on 4/28/1893. He died on July 10, 1983. He was living in East Williston, NY at the end of his life. He was in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, when my father (his son) was born.
There were six siblings Frank (my grandfather), Anthony Joesph Giuseppe (your GGF), Charles, Phlomena, Sadie, Angelina.
Charles was extremely successful real estate in NYC and Little Italy.

Hi, Edward,
That's cool that you've been able to locate so much info about your ancestors! Thanks for the tip on the Italian DGA web site.
In my research, I came across another Giuseppe Faruolo a few times, one who was born in New York. But that's not my GGF. My Giuseppe was born in Savoia di Lucania, Italy in 1889. He had no middle name; he was just "Giuseppe Faruolo". He emigrated to the U.S. in March 1904 and settled in Detroit, MI. He never lived in New York and neither of his parents ever came to the U.S. He had one sibling, an older brother. He had one son, my GF born in 1919, and died in Detroit in 1959.
So maybe we are related in some way, but not via Giuseppe, sibling of Frank. (Did Frank really have a brother Joseph and another brother Giuseppe? That would be confusing!)

Yes, if you read this memorial page, there were 8 children.

Re: Letter to Italy to request birth cert. -- please check
I'm sorry. Rosa Faruolo and Sabata Sagarese were not the same person.
Sabata Sagarese never left Italy. She had two children, my GGF Giuseppe (b.1889) and Rocco (b.1886). She was married to Michele Faruolo, who died in 1904— the same year my GGF emigrated to the U.S. She died in 1920 in Italy.
Rosa died in 1915 and is buried in Queens. Her death pre-dated her husband Michael's death by 20 years. And it appears that all of their children may have been born in the U.S., judging by their Americanized names.
My GGF's brother Rocco lived in Atlantic Highlands, NJ and worked as a cobbler. Giuseppe lived in Detroit, MI and was a bricklayer.
My citizenship was recognized in 2018, and I'm thrilled that I can share it with my young daughter, who hopes to study art in Milan one day. How about yourself?

Re: Letter to Italy to request birth cert. -- please check
I started looking into the citizenship about a year ago, then stopped. I may try again now. I have two options of grandfathers to go through.
Did you do it all by yourself? Or, did you hire someone to help you with the process?

Re: Letter to Italy to request birth cert. -- please check
I did it on my own. Fortunately, my mother has kept pretty good family records so 90% of the work was just ordering official copies of everything and having them apostilled and translated. The birth certificate I needed from Italy was acquired by and sent to me by a distant cousin— a Faruolo!— in Savoia di Lucania. (Did you know that there's a Facebook group called "Faruolos in the World"?)
There was one event that I needed help with— my great-grandparents marriage. The where/when perplexed me for months. Eventually I got help from someone right here on the Italgen forum!
If you think you might start up the process again, make your consulate appointment before you start gathering your documents. I don't know where you are located, but many U.S. consulates are booking a couple years in advance. You'll have plenty of time to gather up what you need while waiting for the appointment date to arrive. I mentor citizenship candidates who want to apply in San Francisco. One of my mentees just booked an appointment for April 2022!
It's great to meet another Faruolo. Good luck, Edward!

Hi Kayt,
I am re-reading your messages. The Rosa Faruolo buried in 1915 Calvary Cemetery Queens is my great grandmother.
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/199 ... sa-faruolo
This is my father buried with her in the same grave site.
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/199 ... j_-faruolo
This is my brother that is also buried there.
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/199 ... -s-faruolo
My grandmother Josephine Faruolo and my grandfather Frank Faruolo were alos buried in that same plot.
That was where we went for the burial of all of our relatives during those years. There is a huge stone with FARUOLO on it. You can see it in the links to the grave site.
