Chincharo

Post by Hilary »

I am searching for mygreat uncle Antonio Chincharo who we know married in England in 1910 and gave his birthplace on the certificate as being born in Cassino in 1870. Anyone know of any other people with this surname? There is one story that it was invented

Hi Hilary

Could you write this name phonetically for us so we can try to think whats its original spelling might have been.

There is a name Chinchero, but it is very rare - only in 2 comunes in Italy. One of the comunes is in Lombardia, so as JCSM said, if we know which Cassino it is it might help. There is one Chinchero mentioned on freebmd - a birth in 1893 -

Chinchero Richard Henry Wareham 5a 269

Antonios marriage in 1910 is listed under CHINCHARE.

Another possible variant

Chinchere Rosa 21 St Giles 1b 376

All of these variants appear, albeit rarely, in Lombardia and Val D'Aosta

One other possiblility

Marriages Jun 1877
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cianciarulo Francesco Antonio Holborn 1b 1049

Chincharo could be a shortened phonetic version of this name - or am I clutching at straws :?

Hi Hilary,

Here's another guess. The surname Giancarlo, although rare, is somewhat concentrated and more common in Cassino than other parts of Italy. It's not too much of a stretch to go from Chincharo-to-Giancarlo.

Just another possibility.

Good luck, ... Jay

Do any of the names above sound familiar to you? It seems most of the Chincharo were from Croydon, Surrey.

If you have any more names I will try to look up and link for you.
