Faccini - Bono - Buzzoto - Romeo surnames

Post by sandyb »

Hi everyone.

My paternal great grandfather was Henry Faccini. His first child was born around 1870 but I don't have Henry's age.

His wife was Camile Romeo, although some records say Romero. They both came from Italy, so I'm betting on Romeo. I can't find anything about when they moved to the US.

My maternal grandfather was Frank Buzzotto, born about 1860, born in France & both parents born in France, although Italian name. Supposedly moved to US about 1885.

His wife was Nellie or Lena Bona, born about 1862 born in Italy, both her parents born in Italy

They all ended up in San Francisco.

Questions: I can't find anything on any ship registries (checked Castle Garden & Ellis Island & also genealory searches). I'd like to trace further back to Italy & France but don't know where to start.

I saw on a genealogy site that the name Faccini was a dirivitive of Facinelli as is facci, faccin, faccinelli, faccini, faccio, facioli, faciotti, facin & facini. I also was told by my grandmother that the name Faccini means "little face". I also was told while growing up that we were Sicilian & the name Palermo came up.

Any help anyone can offer would be welcomed. :P

Hi Sandy,

Welcome to the forum.

The people on this forum are great! they are experienced, very knowledge and always willng to help. So I'm sure that this is only 1st of many responses.

I found a Frank & Lena on the 1900 census (T623 Roll 107, page 311) living in San Francisco. Frank (Jan 1860) France, wife Lena (May 1876 Italy), daughters, Lena, Mary, Angela?, sons ? & Tony? Is this correct family??Sorry, image @ HQ hard to read, but someone will get from ancestry.

Do you know death dates for Frank & Nellie/Lena Buzzotto? Do you have death certificates for them? The more info you provide, the more information, records & sources everyone were can find for you. The link below may help if you don't have the death certificates. Death certificates can provide you with birth dates, birth place & parent information.

Waiting on your response.

Wow, thanks for the website! I had searched years ago & not as much info was online so pretty much called a halt to my search. I either hadn't found this site or not sure why I didn't find this info. Anyway I found more info on Frank Buzzotto & Nellie there.

Frank born 1858, died 1/27/1930
Nellie born 1870, died 7/27/08

I found numerous other Bonas,Buzzottos, Romeos & Faccinis. I also found old telephone directories for SF & found them in several years. I guess the next thing to do is send for death certs for Frank & Nellie...

A have my mother's side all the way back to the 1700's & had pretty much given up hope on my dad's side. You are the greatest! :D

I have Frank Buzzotto & Nellie Bona's death certs now.

Additional info below in case anyone sees a new connection to their relatives:

Nellie Bona Buzzotto parent info is
father Antonio Bona born in Italy
mother Mary Taranto born in Italy.
Nellie died in San Francisco July 27, 1908
So now I have a new name of Taranto to follow.

Frank Buzzotto parent info sketchy
both parents born in France, names unknown.
I did find out that after Nellie died Frank remarried to Serafina (maiden name unknown.
I found a death record for Serafina with this info: She was born 7/24/1867, died at age 95. Father's last name Sanger, mother Mezzepel(sp?)
Frank died Jan 27, 1930 & Serafina was still living at that time.

So now a few more crumbs to follow 8O
