Isola delle Femmine, Sicily

Post by kitcatlvr »

Hello!

So I am looking for some birth & marriage records from Isolla delle Femmine. I found the online/ digitized archives that Palermo keeps, however they only go until 1865. My ancestors were born and married after that.

Here's the info:

Giuseppe Billeci - born approximately 03-18-1873
Marietta Bruno - born approximately 09-09-1883
Married in 1888.

If anyone has any info, or knows who to contact, I'd be most grateful if you shared it. :)

I could not find Maria in 1883.
There's one, born in 1882, Sep 1st:

maybe it's her?
However, if she was born in 1883, how could they marry in 1888?

OK, here is their marriage, in 1898:

and that was the right Maria (or Marietta).

When they married, Giuseppe's mother had passed away, and Maria's father was in San Francisco.

Oops! my finger slipped, I mean 1898! But huh. All the documentation I've found for Marietta supports 1883 as her birth date. 09-09-1883 is what I found with her headstone... Fillipa Lucido is on both documents though so it might be her...

But I just went and looked back at some records and her first census here puts her at September 1882! Oh wow, okay and the ship manifest lists her as 17 at the beginning of 1900 and the census in 1930 lists her as 37 at the beginning of the year. But the second two don't list her actual birth date, and the 1930 census just estimated her birth year...

I totally overlooked some of these dates and very seriously appreciate your help with this!

WOW OKAY. THANK YOU.

Don't worry! At that time, people often didn't know when exactly when they were born. And sometimes the date declared at birth was not the right one.
Some people knew they were born "on Easter Saturday" or "the year of the earthquake", so, you can imagine how they approximated their birthdate when they had to declare it.
