Latin Italian church records

Post by meovino »

Is anyone familiar with latin-italian church records?

Here is the marraige of Carlo di Leonardo and Bartholomea (her surname listed in the index is "Tortomasi", as well as in son's baptism record) at San Nicolò di Bari church in Chiusa Sclafani, Sicily, Aug 16 1852. It appears to list Carlo's parents, Giuseppe and Santa Sanfilippo (from Giuliana), and lists the bride's age and that she's from Chiusa, but doesn't list her parents. Does anyone know what this means or why this could be the case?

Do you know what this could possibly in the context of this situation? Did the bride herself not know her parents or was it not "avalible" at the time of the record? Adoption? Orphan? I haven't been able to find the bride's birth record either.

It seems to me that 'daughter of unknown parents' in a marriage act may only mean that not only she had been abandoned somewhere immediately after birth, but even later the parents, nor at least one of them, did not change idea and declared to recognize the child, as sometimes happened, particularly after the marriage of the parents.
