Re: Looking for Search Advice, Tips and Best Practices
My local FHL crew is helping by email. Maybe if you contact them to ask if they could look for a specific record, they would do it?
Re: Looking for Search Advice, Tips and Best Practice

JCM wrote: 11 Oct 2020, 23:16 Hello researchers.... am looking for birth of Domenica Carullo, born circa 1859 in Avellino commune, daughter of Vincenzo Carullo and Maria Genea?? (Spelling?) of Avellino. She died in Avellino in August 1899 at 40 yrs old and was wife of Carmine Saporito.
The Antenati birth records start in 1866 for Avellino but are available thru LDS Family History library prior to 1866. I can’t access this Library since not an LDS member and local Library offices are closed due to COVID. Any other way to access this info?
Thx,
JCM
Domenica's mother's name was Maria Genovese.
Here's Domenica Curullo's 1899 death record:

Re: Looking for Search Advice, Tips and Best Practices
You are very welcome. All the best finding Domenica's birth record. I did have a quick look at the indices for the years 1858-1860, but they didn't seem complete to me, so you may need to go through the records page by page?

Hi Angela....yes I finally found Domenica birth record by leafing page by page for 1859 in Avellino since no index. She was born in August 1859 and died in August 1899. Vincenzo Carullo and Maria Genovese were her parents.
It only took me about 30 min to find her since I started in December and worked backwards thru the records page by page. I just looked for the name after word bambina or bambino.
My sincere thanks for your help providing the nati records for 1859.

Re: Looking for Search Advice, Tips and Best Practices
That was quick!!! Well done. (I just located their 1877 marriage record to check her age, (sometimes death records have errors). She was 18 when she married, so definitely born 1859ish.

Yes Angela...I found her marriage and death records before you kindly steered me to birth records.
If you look at my prior posts regarding Domenica and Carmine you will see that there was an 1879 marriage between a Carmine Saporito and a Filomena D’Apice which is attached to Carmine birth record at the top. He has same parents as Carmine married to Domenica but can’t be the same Carmine as married to Domenica. Must be another Carmine Saporito born in same month of March but the same parents It was very confusing to me when researching. I think that marriage notation on his birth record is wrong. I haven’t been able to find a marriage record for Carmine and Filomena tho. I don’t know when Domenica’s Carmine died but am sure was in Avellino between 1900-1910.
Thx soooo much for your help.

Hi again
I've just had a quick read through your thread here now. I think the reason you may be confused is because you have found two completely different people named Carmine Saporito.
The first Carmine Saporito mentioned in this thread was born in Sicignano on 30 March 1849. His parents were Giovanni Saporito and Alfonsa Todini. He married Filomena D'Aprile on 3 May 1879.
The second Carmine Saporito was born in Avellino circa 1854. His parents were Modestino Saporito and the deceased Carolina Spagnuolo. He married your Domenica Carullo in Avellino 1877.
Marriage of Carmine Saporito and Domenica Carullo: https://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
Before you go back any further, you need to establish which is the correct couple by working backwards from yourself and making sure all the information and records you have tally.
(If the information that you have given us here is correct, then the second Carmine Saporito, married to Domenica Carullo, is more likely to be the correct one

Re: Looking for Search Advice, Tips and Best Practices
Wow Angela...you have solved the mystery of the two Carmines. I had the 1849 born Carmine as my GGF....Saporito and Todino parents....when it was the 1854 born Carmine who really is my GGF!!! You are amazing!!!!
Thx sooo much for this info...now I have to change my maternal grandmother family tree to reflect her correct father. I was so confused about the two Carmines cause I thought both born in 1849.
If I was able to read Italian I would have seen Carmine age in his marriage record to Domenica, and realized he wasn’t born in 1849
but 1854 to totally different parents. YIKES!
You are worthy of the Sherlock Holmes Award for solving the mystery!

Re: Looking for Search Advice, Tips and Best Practices
Pleased I could help. (Carmine was 23 when he married in 1877. All the parents were living, except for Carmine's mother, Carolina Spagnuolo, who had passed already. The father, Modestino Saporito was living in Aiello del Sabato at the time of the marriage, as had his wife when living.) If you need any help reading the records just post them here and we can take a look for you.

Re: Looking for Search Advice, Tips and Best Practices
Hi Angela....I updated my maternal grandmother tree to include her correct Carmine Saporito father.
I have only one more paternal grandmother to find but I have hit a brick wall. Her name is Sophia (Sophie) Mayo or Meo. I think maybe she was born in Montemaggiore Belsito in Palermo since her husband, Onofrio Ciccarelli was born there in 1876, son of Francesco Ciccarello and Crucifissa Militello. She was born circa 1882. One US census record say born Italy and other census says born NJ. I can’t find 1882 birth records for Palermo so can’t confirm if born in Italy or even in Palermo province.
I don’t think they were married in Italy tho since Onofrio emigrated in 1892 or 1895 to USA when single. Can’t find any US marriage records for them but their first child was born in 1899 in USA so married maybe circa 1897/1898 in USA.
Any help would be appreciated to complete the family tree.

Here is 1876 Onofrio Ciccarelli's Birth Record at No 193:

You can continue searching through the years, for Sofia's birth record, from the above link. I did have a look at 1882 index but didn't see Sofia Meo/Mayo there. Have a look under di Meo/Mayo as well (which I didn't do). Sorry, I can't help you right at the minute.
Good luck!
