Date Discrepancies

While researching I have noticed many date discrepancies.

For instance, I find a death record stating the date of death for a particular person.With names of spouse and parents listed on the record.

Then while searching through marriage processetti, I find the same person (matching parents and spouse) with a different death date. I have found many incidents of this.

I have even found one person with four different dates.

I figure the death records are the accurate ones and these are the ones that I record but list the others as alternates.

I'd like to know how others have accounted for discrepancies as such?

Most of the discrepancies I see are age and occupation.

Are you making sure you're reading the date of death and not the date it's recorded?

I'd probably rely more on the actual death record but you never know.

I look for multiple records to help sort it out. I also take into account the person reporting the event, giving more weight to a closer relative and being more skeptical of a non-relative like a friend, neighbor, or townsman.

I do the same as you and look at many records. I'm seeing the dates correctly as many are actually written out in number format.So it is not a matter of misreading the written out form.
I give more credence to the death records as it is fresh in the informants head at the time and usually recorded within a day or so of the incident.

The processetti are sometimes off by a large margin. I have noticed it can be years off. I attribute this to poor remembering of the people and poor referencing of the Comune's staff. And then throw in the referencing of some church records.

I'd like to know (and maybe it is impossible to know) if the staff at the Comune actually went through he old records to cross reference them or just took the information of the bride and groom, in reference to the processetti.

Marriage banns there are usually 3 dates first banns 2nd banns 3rd banns different dates of every bann posted on city hall door. Let me see your records or give me the urls of your records

I would agree that the death act was the accurate record.

Usually the "extract" is copied from the original, BUT in this case you may be right, the clerk composed this from his memory.
You will notice that the year, day and month are off - but the declarants are incorrect as well.
The clerk, who is a Moretti and possibly a relative, lists the declarants as Morettis as well. I do not believe he looked at the actual record.
