Hello everyone!
I am trying to hunt down as much info on Nicola Maria Sciscente (Circa 1866- 1934) & family. My husband is descended from him via their son, Daniel Arthur Sciscente. All I know for sure is that Nicola was from Casacalenda, Campobasso, Molise, Italy, that he immigrated via Ellis Island and lived in New York City (I believe they were in The Bronx). His wife was Caterina née Falcone (Circa 1880-1938).
Their son, Daniel Arthur Sciscente (Circa 1902-1994; died in Connecticut) married a Margaret G. Ferrara (Circa 1908-1997; died in Connecticut), and later divorced. I'm also hunting for info on Margaret & her family. Both were born in NYC if I got my records straight.
The info I'm mostly looking for is how much further back from that I can get, as well as would anyone happen to know the meaning of the name since it's rather unique? The family lore told to me is that Nicola was adopted on the ship over, but I have my doubts. Any info related to the family in general would be most welcome! I've been doing the research for a few years on my own, but think I have exhausted what resources I know. I've been doing work via Ancestry & MyHeritage.
Thanks in advance!
