#1:
I'm wondering if historical Italian property records have been maintained through the centuries?
I found a couple of (birth) records of several generations of family members in the 1800's. Their occupation was listed as Proprietor.
I'm wondering if the address shown on the birth record would have (possibly?) also been the address for their business?
Would there be any way of accessing those old property records?
#2: For another family member, similar question. If we have an address at the time of the family member's death in the 1930's, would it be possible to do a property record search to learn who inherited the property at the time of their death?
If it's possible to do a property record (ownership) history, how would we go about doing that type of search?
Is it available online?
Or is it required to be done in person?
Thank you!
Mimi

Re: Italian Property Records
Property records have been maintained since the 1700's maybe before, for the Kingdom of the tow Sicilies at least. I don't know about the North or the Papal States.
There is a national database you can search for persons born after 1900 (on line). It's possible to do earlier than that in person or by a Geometra with access.
You can try this site. I have never had any luck with it although people have sent me copies of what they found.
I don't like that you have to pay before you know for sure if there is anything to see-
http://www.catastoinrete.it/
In Italy, a land title document is called a catasto. With this site, you pay 9.5 Euros and you can search for someone's catasto. You have to click on "Visure catastali per nominativo", then click on "persone fisica", then check off "visura fabbricati and visura terreni", which is land and buildings. Enter the information on the person, then click on "prosegui" It will ask in what category you are asking the search, such as a private citizen, for use in a job, or if you are a person living abroad. Enter the information about you in bottom and then click on "prosegui". You will then have to pay and then it will like a few seconds for them to do the search.
* IMPORTANT If they find something and they show you the document DO NOT close it or else you will have to pay again for a search.
Angel Research has a 'Geometra' on our team of professionals who can do the search if necessary.
