D' Angelo family from Bologna, Italy

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

D' Angelo family from Bologna, Italy

Post by CarolMorris63 »

Looking for birth records for maternal great-grandfather Felice D' Angelo born 1870. Where can I locate Italian records? He likely immigrated to USA in 1891.

Hi, why you think that the family coming from Bologna? on 1900 census, Felice was married and at home also two his brother: Vincenzo and Antonio.
Both coming from Galdo degli alburni a hamlet of Sicignano Degli Alburni, Salerno, IT
Here your Felice military draft card:

born on 31 Mar 1869 son of Sabato ( son of late Felice) 37 old, farmer and of Rosa CAULO

Thank you for this information. I believe Bologna, because that is our family story. Felice married Raffaela Marie Capone (18 Oct 1884- 27 Nov 1923), she was also born in Italy.

Both Felice and Raffaela are buried in New Jersey.

Yes, Felice "Americanized" his name later to Philip. He named his last child Phillip.
He and Raffaela had 8 children and lived in Camden, New Jersey, USA.
I would really like Felice's birth certificate if possible. I do not know his origin at all.

It is no easy because he went in USA when very young. You don't know the parent's names? I am no sure that Felice was born on 1870, otherwise why he stated 1875 on WWI draft registration card? the birthyear is off..

I believe I found! He was born in my province! After searched in the arrivals, I found a probable arrival, and the birthplace was "Boano" I thinked that really was Bojano in Campobasso province, Molise region! My same region and province! Well the birthyear was a bit off so I tried from 1870 to 1875.
Felice D'ANGELO born in Bojano, Campobasso, IT on 9 June 1872 #98 son of Nicola D'ANGELO ( son of Domenico) 23 old, farmer, and of Aurelia CASOLI (daughter of Vincenzo) 24 old.

This may be it!!

The birthdate 9 June matches his headstone, and Bojano/Boiano DOES seem similar to Bologna!

He married Raffaela Capone, who was from Campobasso. This does seem very likely.

What amazing detective work! I am so impressed, and very grateful. Thank you so very much!
