Hello - I’m looking for assistance to translate a baptism record from Latin to English, specifically, (1) the faded note at the top of the record and (2) the word between “ex” and “Michele Bagnasco”.
Background:
Tomas = baby baptized
Michele Bagnasco = father
Rosa Trupiano = mother (married to Michele in 1873)
Rosa Palazzolo = mother of Rosa Trupiano
(1) I think the faded note says “matrim contra liber ? matrim n.30”
I believe there is an error in the record. I was surprised to see Rosa Palazzolo listed as a spouse and not Rosa Trupiano. Maybe the faded note is acknowledging the error?
(2) I haven’t seen other Latin baptism records with an additional word between “ex” and the father’s name. Does anyone know what this word is?
Thank you!
Rachael

Re: Latin translation help - extra note on baptism record
Very likely the note at the top of the record means: "whose marriage was checked at no. 30 of the marriages registry".
The preposition "ex" could mean: "from" and could have been used as an abbreviation instead of: "son of".

Background:

Rosa Trupiano = mother (married to Michele in 1873) I don't see her in the record
Rosa Palazzolo = mother of Tommaso and wife of Michele

Thank you!

Thank you for your help. It’s possible I have an incorrect record and the names/timeframe matching is coincidental. I will continue on with my searching!

Re: Latin translation help - extra note on baptism record
Hi! One more question - what do you mean by the note is related to Tommaso? If this is the Tommaso I think it is, he was married in Canada in 1919.liviomoreno wrote: 10 May 2021, 08:06Rcdimambro wrote: 03 May 2021, 20:01

Can you post a link to the original record?

Hi mmongo
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2046915
The link is for baptism records from 1873-1889 for Maria Santissima delle Grazie in Terrasini Favarotta in Sicily.
The record in question is on page 447 of 793.
The immigration and marriage records I have show Tommaso Bagnasco born in Terrasini on October 16, 1883 to Michael Bagnasco and Rosa Trupiano. Rosa Trupiano’s mother is Rosa Palazzolo. I have not been able to locate the civil record of Tommaso’s birth.

Re: Latin translation help - extra note on baptism record
Also, I noticed I made an error in a previous post. Tommaso was married in 1909 and not 1919.
