Hey everyone! I don’t know much about my family past my nonno and Nonna. Hopefully someone here can help me out!
So my Nonno is Giovanni Gullotti, born in 1923 in Ucria in Sicily. I believe that he was a labourer. My Nonna who he married is Maria Carmella Gullotti, maiden name Murabigo and was born in 1919. They had four children together; Franca, Sebastian, Rita and Maria and moved to Perth in Western Australia.
Do these names ring any bells for anyone?

Hi - currently in Italy, the surname "Murabigo" isn't in use. However, there are a few instances of people with the surname "Murabito." Most of them live in Sicily around Catania, but some also live in Ucria, Messina, Turin and Milan. Murabito is a fairly rare name, so anything we find might be significant for you.
Do you know if any of your family ever came to the Massachusetts? I found a 1947 membership application for the Massachusetts Lodge of the Order of the Sons of Italy. The applicant was Carmelo Murabito, a son of Luigi. The document states that Carmelo was born in "Ucria Messina Italia" on March 3, 1910. The application also seems to indicate Carmelo's wife was Rosa, age 29. The document is stamped "Received, May 10, 1947, Death Fund."
Also, several United States naturalization applications were made in Massachusetts by Gullotti's who were born in Ucria:
- Francesco Cordaro Gullotti, born on May 11, 1889.
- Germana Gullotti, born on February 2, 1906
- Sebastiano Gullotti, born December 15, 1895
A 1938 United States naturalization application was also filed in New York by an Antonio Gulloti who was born in Ucria in August 1880.
Finally, do you subscribe to Ancestry.com? One of its family trees includes an Antonino Gullotti who was born in Ucria in 1909 and died in Perth, Western Australia, in 1993.

I agree on the name most likely being Murabito. Ucria records are only digitally available up to 1910 so it will be difficult if you have no information about your great-grandparents.

Please contact me. I believe I may know which family you descend from. If you are related to Grazia, there is a good chance that we are related. Based on the previous list, your ancestor would be Francesco and Teresa because he is within my family and closely related. All the Gullotti's in Ucria were related, but the Cordaro branch added that name in the early 1800's to differentiate themselves.
