Turin, 1670

Post by DeliatheCrone »

In my direct maternal line, I have Joscelin Percy, the Earl of Northumberland, who lived all his life in England, but died 21 May 1670 in Turin. For the life of me, I can''t find what he might have been doing there. Does anyony have any information regarding the events surrounding the end of May 1670 in Turin?

Hi Delia - I don't know if this will be useful, but it describes the custom, of "British nobility" and "landed gentry," to tour Italy and Greece, from about 1660 through 1840:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Tour

Turin is mentioned as a destination of the "tourists."
