Solofra - Matrimoni indici

Post by JPiedmont »

Up until recently I've had a lot of success with this forum's help and advice, thanks! Now I'm trying to find the marriage records of Raffaele Martucci & Domenica Vietri (Pietri?), and Michele Tirelli & Angela D'Onofrio. They were all born in ~1842 in Solofra, Avellino, and so far their children that I've found were born in 1866 and 1867. So chances are they were married between 1859 and 1865. The problem is I can read the names in '64 and '65 (relatively sure they're not in there but not 100% positive), but not the others. There's a dramatic handwriting change and my eyes can't make heads or tails of it. If any generous kind soul with better eyes than me happens by this post, could you give the indexes between '58 and '63 a quick glance and see if you find either ancestral couple of mine? Grazie mille!

Also, if it helps or makes a difference in any way, I think I've found 3 of their birth records:

Raffaele Nicola Martucci #186 - http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 8.jpg.html

Angela Maria Immacolata D’Onofrio #181 - http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 5.jpg.html

Michele Sebatautouio? Alfonso? Tirelli #172 - http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 0.jpg.html

Typo, 26 Nov 1865*
The marriage is not listed in the 1865 index, this is probably why you didn't find it. Instead I suspect it might have actually occurred at the beginning of 1866, which is missing from the digitized records. The publications were always presented a little bit before the actual marriage.

Thank you very very much! At the same time wow, I'm shocked! Their daughter Lucia was born on December 12, 1867 so I wrongfully assumed present-day circumstances, that they probably tried for a year or two at least... instead it seems virile Italian Catholics somewhat regularly conceived children on their wedding nights.

Do you know (maybe not for Solofra specifically but in general) if it's that these records haven't been scanned or if they don't exist? I've read conflicting theories about recordkeeping during the Unification and I'm not sure what to think. Run into the same problem in Positano, a six year gap precisely when two of my ancestors were born. Someday for completeness' sake, should I contact their registry offices to find out, or is there a smarter way to go about it?

This time their son Michele was born November 24, 1866. I definitely haven't been looking for marriages close enough to childbirth, in the future I'll start the search 8-9 months before the first child! Thanks again.
