cerossimo/cersosimo & jacabacci/iacabacci

Post by floweret »

Hello! I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. I have very limited information, so please be kind to me :) I hope I am posting in the right place! If not, please let me know. I will move it somewhere else!

i was adopted so I don't know too much of my bio family history. I was able to track down both my bio dad and mom (they are not together anymore) and I had more questions then answers. So, here's the info I got!

My mother doesn't know much info either. Her mother was very silent about her past. My mother was born a Cerossimo and born in The Bronx. Most "Cerossimo" I looked up did live in The Bronx. However, most "Cerossimo" i found spelled their name "Cersosimo" and they lived in Connecticut and/or were born in Italy. My mother spells her name "Cerossimo" but it's interesting to see others spell it differently. Any thoughts on that?

More names I found by doing my DNA on ancestry! My maternal grandmother was Elizabeth, my great-grandmother was Virginia. Virginia married a Joseph Cerossimo.. goodness. there's a handful of Josephs and I'm pretty stuck on any info on this one! I don't know where to connect the dots with Joseph's family and the history of the last name Cerossimo. I know he got divorced and Virginia later married a Vincent. Any info about Elizabeth, Virginia, and Joseph would be appreciated, but I understand if it's hard to find!

This is where it gets tricky! I found 2 Virginia Cerossimos. There's one who was born to Albert & Bridget Jacabacci I am pretty sure this is the right one. I found a lot of "Iacabcci" but I recently found out from this lovely message board that in Italy, there's "no letter" for J, so the closest one was I? I found some names spelled "Jacabucci"/Iacabucci" but I can't find any information passed Albert and Bridget Jacabacci/Iacabacci. The other Virginia Cerososimo had a sibling Giuseppina Cersosimo, but that's all I could find. (Please note my bio mother is also Virginia--confusing, right? lol!) Any thoughts? Thank you so much for any help!!

I used ancestry, familysearch and myheritage for the info I found.

I can see a 1933 marriage for Joseph Cerossimo & Vincenza Iacabacci in New York. This couple had a daughter Elizabeth born around 1938-1939. This Joseph had a previous marriage in 1927 to Alfreda Previtera. Joseph's parents are Salvatore Cersosimo & Vincenza (maybe la Mantia?). Salvatore was born in Cassano all'Ionio and Vincenza in Corleone according to his naturalization https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... ACSHG-YK3Z

Salvatore had a previous marriage to an Amelia that died in 1891 in New York. Together they had a son Joseph but this one died 23 Apr 1891. Sometime then between 1891-1897 Salvatore married VIncenza, possibly in New York.

Cersosimo -> Cerossimo was likely just done to make it easier for the Western world.

i can't seem to find anything on elizabeth after the 1940 census! i know she had two sisters: Lucielle and Bridget (Rosa who died as a baby) and a brother named Salvatore Joseph.

Most of the *cersosimo* i found that spelled their name like that lived in america, too. that's why the confusion!
