Weddings in 1800’s Sicily

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

Weddings in 1800’s Sicily

Post by scraig32 »

I’m looking for good resources (books or websites) that give in-depth detail into what a 1800’s wedding was like in Sicily- details about the wedding dress, superstitions, traditions, parts of a the wedding (civil and religious), parents’ roles, the “reception”, etc.

Thank you so much for any tips on where to look.

Hi - I know this isn't what you are looking for, but it's an interesting article about unusual marriages in Sicily. The newspaper is dated May 3, 1820.
