Camillacci family in Monte San Giovanni Campano

Hello everyone,

I have been researching the origins of my ancestral surname Camillacci, which I believed to originate from the small town of Sermoneta, where I managed to trace up to my great-great-grandfather. However, the trail goes cold before him, and I suppose that the first person with that surname who settled there came from somewhere else.

I am inclined to think that the city of origin might be Monte San Giovanni Campano, now in the province of Frosinone. Unfortunately the records for that place do not appear to be available on-line, either through FamilySearch or the Antenati portal.

So I am wondering whether someone had already done any research in the area, as I could certainly use some advice.

Hi Arturo - You're probably aware how rare the surname Camillacci currently is in Italy:

It might be helpful to you that it's such a rare name. Of the 12 instances on the map, most occur in Rome and the next largest concentration is just east of Frosinone, probably in or around Monte San Giovanni Campano.

I might be wrong, but I think I read that Frosinone's civil records were destroyed many years ago, so of course those wouldn't be listed in the Antenati database.

I just spotted your family tree on Ancestry, so you've probably already found all these immigration records. So, I haven't given you any information you don't already have!

Monte San Giovani Campano was part of the Papal States and Civil records didn't begin until 1871 The town office has a complete set but the State Archives have very few and this is where Family Search did their filming. Parish records exist although are missing some years.
