Hello there. I am new to this site. My great-grandfather was born in Anzano degli Irpina, which is now known as Anzano di Puglia. I was wondering if anyone is also researching surnames from this town that appear in my family tree:
I'm not sure if you are just trying to find other people with your same surname or looking for how to find information on those surnames.
I will tell you that the Family History Center has microfilm that you can order and rent for the town of Anzano di Puglia. (Sorry if you already know this information, but just wanted to share it in case other's don't know).
Both my parents were born in Anzano Di Puglia, Foggia. Some of the surnames you have listed are familiar and some live in the Toronto Area (Canada). Some include:
I am also searching for ancestors from Anzano. My grandmother was born a Rossi, and emigrated to Boston in 1913 with her 5 children. My grandfather (Ricciardi) was already there.
I am going to Anzano this summer to look up more information. Are you looking for information on your great grandfather in Anzano, or in Boston?
Hi guys. I'm on my way to Anzano di Puglia. My grandfather and grandmother were from there and also emigrated to Boston, where my father was born in the north end.
Here are the last names in our family:
Damiano
Puopolo
Marciello
Mastrangelo
I do not speak Italian, at least not any socially acceptable words, but I'm going for the feast of Our Lady of Anzano di Puglia, a big thing in the village. There are many Anzanese in Toronto. There is a Facebook page of the village, where I have been able to communicate with he help of Google Translate.
Hi! Resurrecting this thread. My family names from Anzano di Puglia are Puopolo, Marotta, Stafferi, and Solimine. Some of my cousins are Marciellos. Very cool to see similar names. In case anyone gets a notification about this comment, I'd love to connect!
Puopolo is my fathers grandmother's last name. And I have visited Anzano di Puglia. Augusto Solomine and his brothers own a store there, ice cream, chips, snacks, a nice little place where many villagers congregate for chatting, emailing and games.
There are still Puopolo families there, as well as Damiano families, my maiden name.
My grandmother was born in Anzano her maiden name is Immaculata "Concetta" Cerasuolo. Her father Rocco came to Boston and then my grandmother followed. Her mother Maria and siblings never emigrated to the US. She married my grandfather Calegero Giampapa in 1917 and Rocco died a few months later. She started the Societa Feminila di Santa Maria D'anzano in Boston and was President almost until her death. She had a Brother Gennaro and 2 sisters Plinia and Erminia. I know there were relatives in Toronto.
I've visited Anzano decades ago with my grandmother but it's a great memory.
My grandfather was born in Anzano in 1923 and came to Boston in 1953 after his parents had already done so sometime earlier.
The Anzanese last names in our family are Tarantino & DiPaola. I'm curious to know if anyone has relatives from Anzano with the DiPaola surname since that is my great-grandmother's and I don't know much about her family. My great-grandfather, Angelo Tarantino, was one of the founding members of the Madonna di Anzano society in Boston, and I recognize a few of the names in this forum from the list of founders.
It's said Italy was a country of Saints, poets and navigators. There's no more trace of the poets and navigators but, fortunately, there are traces of the Saints. All the Italian towns are voted to a Saint and one of these is San Gennaro, well-known for his miracle. Who was San Gennaro? San Gennaro ...
