Help with reading death certificate - Quattroville (poi Virgilio)

Post by deigo1 »

Hello,

I need help reading the death certificate of Domenico Menossi (perhaps Menozzi) Quattroville (now Borgo Virgilio).

I was trying to understand the following:

1. Complete Date of Death ( I believe it says some time in May)
2. Father's Name
3. Mother's Full Name
4. Wife's Name

Thanks Deigo

Date of registration was 19 May 1879
The date of death was “ieri” i.e. “yesterday” so 18 May 1879, at 9 pm, in the house in Corte Granazzo, No 41.

Domenico Menozzi, 57 yo, contadino (peasant/farmer), residing in Cerese, born in San Nicolo’ a Po, son of the deceased Pellegrino and of the deceased Maddalena Butasi?

Can you please post the full record. You may have cropped out the wife’s name (if he had a wife). We prefer you to link us to the online record, if it exists. Thank you

Edit to Add: I've located the record now and I'll post a better copy for you shortly. Domenico was the husband of Pasqua Zanella. I'll check the mother's surname as well.

Here is a clearer copy of the record at this link which you should be able to download for your records: https://iiif-antenati.san.beniculturali ... efault.jpg

I'm still readind "Butasi"?

(Some of these records look like they have been eaten!!!)

Sorry about that I tried to zoom it in because of the "eaten" page to make the info more clear. With the changes to antenati is there now an easy way to link to the specific pages? It seems as though they have made it impossible to do that.

So similar to our conversation on the s, the z sometimes has a tail and sometime doesn't if there are two of them?

Thanks again!!!

Not really, unless you are happy with how I linked you to the record in my previous post. It might be just as quick all round if you post the image needing translation, but also link us to the online image, quoting the relevant page number which is what a lot of other people requesting translations do. While attempting to link us to the relevant record might not work, it does link us to the beginning of the relevant register, and if you include the page number in your request, then it is very easy for us to locate it by clicking on the gallery which brings up all the pages.

Yes and no, but not exactly!!! You will see a long "s" and a long "z" even when they are not in pairs. Take a look at the town Cerise in the record above. It has been written twice, once with the "s" having a tail (long s) and then another time without a tail. If you have a look at the record yesterday, it will probably have the same inconsistancies, if I recall correctly.

Thanks again!!!
Deigo

I hope I haven't confused you.
