Hi - can someone please tell me what the word "amministrati" means in the context of this sentence:

"Ma ciò che più ci addolora - e speriamo che le nostre informazioni non siano vere - si è il fatto che taluni Sindaci della regione Veneta sollecitano essi medesimi i loro amministrati ad emigrare dal nostro paese, e ciò affine di liberarsi forse da un pò d' abitanti divenuti troppo numerosi."

I'm no linguistic expert by any means, but it sounds to me as if the communal Mayors in the region of Veneto were perhaps overwhelmed with adminitrative duties due to high population density and therefore were requesting residents to emigrate and thus relax the pressures on their governmental offices.

This explanation at least makes logical sense, if nothing else...

Mark is correct.
"Amministrati" would be "the people they ruled"
