San Vendemiano Birth Record- 1880s

Post by Dave83 »

Hello.

I recently obtained information that my Great-Grandfather may have been born in San Vendemiano / Treviso / Veneto, Italy in 1880.

Doing an online search, it appears as though local parishes and also the local commune may have birth records and/or other records that could help me identify more information about my Great-Grandfather; such as his birth records and family records.

Has anyone had experience doing this type of research in the San Vendemiano area?

I found certain articles on how to request records from Italy. However, I was not sure what records would be available in the San Vendemiano area in the early 1880s.

If my Great-Grandfather was born in San Vendemiano; it is likely he and his family did not stay there very long; so the records I would be targeting in San Vendemiano would be between 1880-1890.

Any advice / info /recommendations on researching records from this time and place would be appreciated.

Hi no one Faraldi in Treviso military records, if you are searching for Fernando/Ferdinando Faraldi.. so I understood.. his last residence is listed Treviso on the ship's manifest, and joining to Antonio... unreadable.. but in same town, and a Armando Cariboni ( Cariloni is mispelled) coming from Dervio... then, in the second page, abt birthplaces of both: Dervio
It could be possible that the compilator wrote a wrong last residence abt Fernando? Maybe he born in another province? Faraldi or Feraldi is no a surname of Treviso area....

I believe that maybe there some error, because the trip is of May 1909 and no 1907, so this is another trip probably and matching with immigration year on 1920 census abt Ferdinando... and the age on 1909 is 29 and matching with 1880 birth year
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2299396
moreover the ship name Molthe is wrong, Moltke exist but the name ship of this trip is Amerika...

PippoM & SuanJ-

Thank you for the information.

This looks very useful.

I will need to look at these documents closer.

Regarding “Armando Cariboni”:
I did a quick search for him and found a New York Arriving Passenger List (September 3, 1912; on the Patricia). The first line of one of the pages shows an “Armando Cariboni”, age 35. The “Whether going to join a relative or friends column” shows a “Brother: Feraldi Ferdinand”; located in Buffalo. His mother is also identified as “Marina Cariboni”. It is very likely this “Feraldi Ferdinand” is my Great Grandfather. If this is true; this is a name of a Mother and Brother that I previously did not have.

Regarding the 1907 and 1909 Censuses:
I think both of these may be the same person. In the 1909 New York Arriving Passenger list, column 17 shows that he was previously in the US in 1908 in “Clarence” (“Clarence”, “Buffalo”, and “Akron”) are all Cities or towns in the same general area in Western New York. “Akron” is a small town in New York near Buffalo; but there is a much larger “Akron” in Ohio.

Regarding Antonio Cescon:
I’m going to look into this a little further.

All of this is very helpful.

Thank You.

Here the ship's manifest of Armando Cariboni born in Dervio( currently in Lecco province)

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3AJJRM-Z4X
on the second page, he stated to be in USA from 1901 to 1904 in Cleveland, OH and then from 1907 to 1910 in Akron, OH, Akron NY and Buffalo, NY.. going to brother FERALDI Ferdnando in Buffalo, NY

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1368704
now the problem is to understand why a Cariboni is a brother of Feraldi.... Armando was born on 1877 and Ferdinando on 1880....

Wanting to take stock of the research, I can say that giving the year of birth by right, and considering that Ferdinand was an adult when he emigrated, we can say that he did his military service, but in the database of the province of Treviso there is no one with that surname or similar or in other versions. None and the database reaches up to males born in 1880. Ferdinand should be in the database but it is not there.
On his second trip he declares as his birthplace a miswritten name that we could decipher as San Vendemiano. In the first trip it is written Dervio and it is valid for both Armando Cariboni and Ferdinando.
Even in Dervio, among the data available online there is not a single Feraldi or Faraldi or Feroldi etc ..
Was he really born in San Vendemiano? On his first trip he came from Treviso and went to Antonio Cescon. Cescon is definitely a surname from the Veneto region. Treviso is in the Veneto region.
I searched the military service database of both Padua, Rovigo, Vicenza and Verona. No result.
Those of Venice and Belluno are not available.

About Belluno, online, there is a public family tree concerning Ferdinando, and it is claimed that he is the son of Giovanna Maccagnan born on 1860 in Fonzaso, Belluno, Veneto, IT. Married to Pietro Antonio Faoro.

All children born from couple having Faoro surname, instead for some reason, the owner of genealogic tree put Ferdinand Faraldi as son of Giovanna Maccagnan. the first child of this Giovanna was born on 1888 so I assume that she married before, and Pietro Antonio was more young of his wife.. Well as could be possible that Ferdinando Faraldi was the son of this woman?

other question:
Armando Cariboni stated to joing Ferdinando Feraldi, his brother.. brother?
Seeming to me that the mother are almost two.. and no one is the true....
second my opinion, for what I can imagine, Ferdinando was orphan or foundling and and he was entrusted without being legally adopted to families who raised him.. or it could be possible that Giovanna Maccagnan was the biological mother... the discrepance between Fonzaso and San Vendemiano is no a real discrepance, because the unmarried and pregnant women normally in order not to be discovered they took the child to another municipality and said they had found him and then asked for his custody ... (And Fonzaso is far from San Vendemiano abt 85 km...)

This lasted until the fourteenth year of age and then the boy had to look for a job. Sometimes he stayed in the family that had raised him and sometimes he went to work in another municipality where he found work in exchange for room and board and a small wage. And he became like part of the family. This would explain why Armando calls Ferdinando: brother.

But Ferdinando maintained contact with people from his probable area of birth, as well as with Dervio. Antonio Cescon was a friend and Giuseppe Galli too. One must have come from the Treviso area and one from the Dervio area or surroundings.

I believe this is Antonio CESCON friend of Ferdinando:
