The clerk made an error.

Rosa was the mother of the bride who was Michela Castro.

Anyway, I believe the groom - Giovanni Ferla - was a widow when he married Michela in 1921.

I know the record reads "celibe" but is there anything written to suggest he was married previously?

Any reason to conceal a previous marriage?

No, I can't read anything suggesting he was a widow.
Unfortunately, it seems there are not even the marriage banns for year 1921.
