Domenica's mother of record was Elisabetta Todaro, wife of Salvatore Irianni. The lined name "Vaccaro" in the attached image isn't recorded elsewhere in the birth record. Please explain this and the meaning of "d'co."

The two lines are showing you that an error has been made. In legal documents you can not cross anything out. Then it says "dico" ( I say) lrianni which corrects the error.

Grazie, Angela. I'd have read this sooner, but instead kept checking my email, where I expected reply notifications.
My confusion about this record leaves unsolved the question of whether my great grandfather had remarried. Records suggest that Elisabetta and my great grandmother Maria Teresa Todaro had the same parents. Maybe Domenica's birth record had two errors--the other being the mother's given name.

You are very welcome. I haven't been getting regular email notifications either, for weeks now. Then all of a sudden I get about seven emails all in a row with somewhat dated information on them. So, not sure what's going on. There seem to be others experiencing similar. I'm sure it will get sorted eventually.

I noticed a small tree online for this family and was able to view Domenica Irianni’s 1873 birth record there and also found the 1870 birth record for older sister Rosa Irianni. Salvatore’s details basically match on both records apart from their being a two year difference in his estimated year of birth, which is neither here or there. Only the birth address is different. Salvatore's occupation, and name of his father listed on each record is the same - deceased Andrea. I searched the death records from May 1870 to February 1873 in case there was a death record for Maria Teresa Todaro, but none to be found. I also searched the marriage records from 1870 to 1873, just in case I’d missed a death record, but I didn’t see a marriage record there for Salvatore and Elisabetta. I tend to agree with you that the 1873 birth record listing the mother as Elisabetta Todaro (daughter of Domenico) and not Maria Teresa Todaro (also daughter of Domenico) is an error, (as of course was the surname Vaccaro). It is interesting that it hadn’t been picked up though. (Incidentally, I noticed that the surname Vaccaro came up in the marriages with either the surname Irianni or Todara, or both, so maybe the clerk knew of the families and just got muddled? Just a thought.) (Another thought is that Maria Teresa Todaro was given a third name at birth - Elisabetta - and that when Salvatore registered Domenica's birth, he either only gave the name Elisabetta or the clerk just wrote down the name Elisabetta? It is just a thought but this has happened before.) Do you have Maria Teresa's birth record?

Do you know whether Domenica Irianni married, and if so when? Also, do you have a copy of Salvatore Irianni and Maria Teresa Todara’s marriage record? Are you able to post these?

I was able to locate Maria Teresa's "probable birth record". I previously located son Andrea's 1864 birth record which reported Maria Teresa's age to be 26 (so born circa 1838). In case you don't have Andrea's birth record and Maria Teresa's birth record here they are:

I looked for Maria Teresa and Salvatore's marriage record but didn't find it, but it will be there. The writing is quite faint in places and hard to decipher, so if you don't have it, I'll recheck the indices tomorrow with fresh eyes.

I just discovered your findings by googling "Elisabetta Todaro," Angela! Grazie mille for the extensive research. We concur on the two errors in Domenica's birth record. Otherwise, both my paternal grandfather and great-grandfather may have shared a quirk: Since Andrea didn't like grandma Irena/Irene's name (Catherine is engraved on her tombstone!), then Salvatore may have told the clerk that great-grandma Maria Teresa's name was Elisabetta. Then again, he could've failed to get away with identifying himself as a Vaccaro!
