I’m trying to figure out the parents of an ancestor, and am having a little trouble.
My ancestor’s name is Angela Maria Esposito. Here is her death record from 1869 (the last entry on the page, images 293-294): https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... 3A50425901
It correctly lists her husband as Michele Esposito, and under her father’s name, lists her parents as what I believe to be “figlia di alliovo del fu Francesco Volpe e della fu Luigia Esposito.” You'll notice in the column with the entry number and name, it lists her name simply as Angela Maria, with no surname.
I’m not sure what the “alliovo” part means, and it looks like “allievo” on her marriage record, which appears to mean “pupil.”
Here is her 1809 marriage record to Michele (image 37, entry 71, right page): https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1482813
It again seems to list something that looks like “figlia de allievo di Francesca Volpe,” although it looks like the supposed father’s name ends with an “a” and not an “o.” It does not list a mother’s name despite one being listed on the death record 60 years later.
The marriage index (entry 71 for 1809) also seems to list her name as Esposito Angiola all., with a Francesca (again looks like it ends with an an “a”) Volpe in the father’s column and nothing in the mother’s column. (Interestingly, it also accidentally switched the groom’s first name with his father’s).
The index here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1482813
So can someone explain what the “figlia di alliovo/allievo” translation means, and what her parents’ names are, if these are indeed her actual parents? Also, why does her death record list a mother’s name but not her marriage record, which came 60 years later? Unfortunately, since she was born before 1809 I am not able to locate a birth record.
Also, the husband Michele’s mother’s surname looks like all three spellings of Zullo, Zallo, and Rallo in the records shown, as well in his death record here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3AXPXF-GNB
I have a Rallo elsewhere in my tree, and also have heard of Zullo, but I’m not really sure which spelling is accurate here. Perhaps someone can assist me with these questions.
I'd really appreciate the help, so thank you in advance.

Re: Help determining parents/translation of an ancestor
"Figlio/a d'allievo" is a foundling that has been given in foster care (not in adoption) to a person (Francesco/a Volpe), who has taken on the task of raising him until he comes of age.
