Where and when did he marry his second wife

Post by rp76226 »

Michael Chudkowsky's (also seen spelled as Chudkosky) first wife (Michelina Marszycka) died January 15, 1930 in Manhattan. They has 3 children, Nicholas, 9, Walter 4, and Joseph 2 (my uncle). The story is that he abandoned his 3 children (who were first taken care of by neighbors and then sent to boarding schools) and went back to Poland or Russia. He returned on October 27, 1933 by himself, then again returned on November 2, 1934 with his second wife, Maria Lucniak, and their two children Helen and Rita. The ship manifest says that Helen was born in New York, NY on January 14, 1932. The Ellis Island manifest file is too large to attach here (a problem that occurs way too often on this website). Even when he returned, Michael Chudkosky did not visit his sons from his first marriage nor take them into his new family.
1. Can anyone find when and where the second marriage took place?

2. Can anyone find when Michael Chudkowsky left the US (apparently at least twice)?

The above file posted by you is no readable however it could be possible that he married the second time in New York because Helen was born here...

wel Helen was born on 14 Jan 1932 in New York, But Rita was US citizen by his father naturalization, the second wife, Marja strangely was born in same austrian or poland town of first wife: Brzezany. Marja don't seems US citizen, no by birth no by marriage and left the her mother Paulina Laszniak in Brzezany, Poland,

Thanks for your research. Per her Social Security record, I have her parents names:

Name Maria Chudkosky
Gender Female
Race White
Birth Date 14 Oct 1908
Birth Place Brezany
Death Date Dec 1980
Father Michael Luszniak
Mother Pauline Gregorovich
SSN 131227731
Notes Jul 1946: Name listed as MARIA CHUDKOSKY

I cannot find his parents. Not showing on his SS records.

On my attachment, the print is small, but I can read it. Line 16 is where the information is.

Still no luck on the second wife marriage information.

Ande I cannot find the birth in USA of Helen.. maybe they were no married and that can explain why on the 1934 trip in USA, she was no US citizen by marriage, but stated that she was in USA from 1930 to 1933 and Helen born in USA. I don't have a deluxe account of ancestry but maybe you can see this record abt Helen birth:
Nome
Helen Chulkosky
Nascita
xx xxx xxxx xxx xxx xxxxxNew York City (New York City (All Boroughs)), New York, USA (Stati Uniti)
maybe some additional helpful info?

Age for both adults looks the same as their age at marriage, suggesting they were married in Feb-Apr of 1930.

Can't find anything on the birth of Helen Chudkosky except on the 1934 Ellis Island ship manifest. On the 1930 census, the first name of his second wife was Maria, not Margaret. The first wife had died only 3 months earlier on January 15, 1930. Perhaps Margaret was actually a babysitter, not a wife?

no, I believe Margaret was Marja.. maybe just changed the polish first name with a first name more american!
by ancestry.com exist a Helen Chulkosky (so transcribed thesurname) in the database births, baptisms in New York city (all buroughs) from 1910 to 1965

I believe never married. No one to marry after 3 or 4 months from death of first wife. Just stated on the census that they was married but probably they were partners. If married .. married in poland because nothing result in USA

well well, Marja loss 3 years of age in the time.. here the naturalization of her father showing that on the petition date the his family stayed in Brzezany and Marja was born on 14 oct 1905. So the Margaret on 1930 census.. mystery...

A witness affidavit of this naturalization was Mike Chudkosky!
The surname by signature was LUSZNIAK
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... AZ588-YBW2
that explain more things,

and this is more helpful, the second naturalization, because the first of 1924/1930 maybe no had success: Mary (Marja) seeming unmarried, and naturalized with father on 1941. By signature the surname spelling seeming LUSHNIAK https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... AQLMZ-4MNK
just Mary/Marja stayed in USA https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... AQLMZ-4MNK
