Irish Names

Post by darkerhorse »

I'm trying to read the names of the parents of the deceased John Boland, the last entry on the page. It's an Irish document.

They are transcribed in one place as Murty Boland and Catha Boland.

I see Healy as the surname for the mother. Could it be Catherine Healy?

Is Murty a first name in Ireland?

I just found out that Murty is short for Muredachi.

I still need confirmation on the mother's name.

Note the first entry on the page -- it is a Catherina Boland. Her father is Michael Healy.

Good catch.

The deceased John Boland was 79 in 1927, and the deceased Cathernia Boland was 81 in 1926.

How do you suppose they are related?

I can't reason it out.

Looks to me like cousins of cousins, perhaps, not so unlike some Italian marriages in small towns, but I'd suggest more research is necessary to confirm...

I read this as:

John Boland was the son of Murty Boland and Catherina Healy; and husband of Sara Duffy.

The deceased Catherina Boland at the top of the page was the widow of Martin Boland.
