Re: Translation of Side Note on Death Record
Hi there
The notes arn't directly related to your record. It is just the closing of the death register for that year.
Cheers
Angela

Thank you Angela,
Have another side note 1873 Giuseppe Birth translation request--No.293 Img 1448. ( sides dates confusing )
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2043548
Calogera Greco should be named as wife of Leonardo Ruggiero, they had a child Giuseppe in 1872 (died at 4 mo.),
Calogera not listed as wife, seems her sister is listed by mistake.
Calogera and Leonardo had a child Giovanna in 1876 --No. 384--Img. 1918

The annotation is a note rectifying the baby's mother’s name. You are correct that the Birth act should have stated that Giuseppe Ruggiero’s parents were Leonardo Ruggiero and Calogera La Greca. (and not Margherita La Greca)
Good spotting.

Good News-- Clerk corrrection ?
The Father Leonardo Ruggiero, found his 1836 birth record, looks to be a foundling;

Not sure what you mean by clerk correction. The record does show that Leonardo Ruggiero was a child of the wheel, of uncertain parents. He was abandoned at the wheel without any clothes. The woman assigned to take the abandoned infants from the wheel is the person who presented him to the town official who, in turn, assigned him the first and last names, Leonardo Ruggiero. He was found on April 30, 1836 at 10. He was also baptized on the 30th.

Yes, good news!!! It is hard to say in this case whether it was the clerk’s error or the father’s, but, you would think that the father, who reported the birth, would know the name of his wife. (Maybe he was so elated over the birth of his son that he gave his sisterinlaws name in error(?) ) Who knows? It is great that you are keeping tabs and being vigilant as you go, because I come across so many errors and rectifications in these Sicilian records. Even the surname written in the annotation looks a little bit suspect. It doesn’t read “La Greca” it reads “la Genca,” but I suspected it was suppose to read “La Greca,” and to be absolutely certain, I went back and found the transcription in the 1893 Part II register (No 45) from which information the annotation here was written.
Great find on Leonardo’s birth record. It’s too bad it brings you to a dead end on his line though. (Interesting though that the name Ruggiero was given to him – it’s not really that unique a name, but maybe it was for the town?)
