Milano/Lombardia research - Sconfietti - Bianchi family

Post by sforza »

Hello,
I'm seeking advice on next steps in researching some of my Milanese ancestry. There seem to be fewer online records compared to other places I've researched.

Here is the line:

-Cesare Sconfietti, born in Milano in 1872, died in Rochester, NY in 1936. I located the birth certificate.
-Cesare's father - Paolo Sconfietti, nato c. 1819-20. Profession - ragioniere. I've traced him to Milano as early as 1844 and as late as 1892.
-Cesare's mother - Marianna Bianchi, nata c. 1842-43. Profession - "wealthy" LOL. I've traced her to Roma as of 1913.
-Cesare's sister - Emilia Sconfietti, married Giuseppe Boschetti. They "lived on Lake Maggiore" and Boschetti oversaw Italian rail during WWI, according to a brief description I read in a bio of Cesare.

I've encountered several obstacles with the records:
Cesare's birth cert does not include any information on his grandparents. Nor could I locate a marriage cert for his parents from 1866 on in Milano, and there do not appear to be online records for Milano before 1866. So they were either married in Milano before 1866 or married somewhere else. Cesare's birth cert does not say where Paolo or Marianna were born.

Paolo Sconfietti died between 1892 and 15 Apr 1901. However, there are no indexes for Milano deaths and the average film has over 2,000 images for each year. I don't have the time to scroll through that many images. At this point I plan to write the ufficio dello stato civile to see if they'll do a search. Is anyone on this site based in Milano and/or have experience with that office? Do the staff have access to an index?

Regarding Cesare's sister Emilia Sconfietti of "Lake Maggiore," I have no dates nor names of a potential town. Also, there appear to be no Varese records at all online. Does anyone have leads on Varese records? I also plan to look at the Piemonte side of Lake Maggiore to see if any of those towns have indexes.

Cesare's mother, Marianna Bianchi and sister, Emilia Sconfietti, were both living in Roma later in life. I have not located Marianna's death cert, but the indexing of the Roma records is confusing and there are a few years where records listed in the index cannot be found in the actual atti.

The good news is that Sconfietti is not a common name and is nearly exclusive to Lombardia (with a handful in Liguria). I've started keeping track of the various Sconfietti lines scattered throughout the region as I encounter them in the research, but have yet to confirm any close relatives of Paolo Sconfietti or Marianna Bianchi. There is a significant concentration of Sconfietti in Carona, but no immediate connections and again the records appear to start in 1866 and I would need to go further back.

I have other leads that I won't belabor here. At this point, I'm inquiring as to ideas for next steps, any insights or advice on researching Lombardia (or Roma), and on the off-chance that anyone has researched this line and may have more information on Paolo Sconfietti and Marianna Bianchi.

Thank you!

Hallo, I've found this https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3-42398-40 death act of Antonio Sconfietti dated 30 August 1885. He lived in Milan in "via Piatti, 6". A witness was "Sconfietti Paolo", 64 yars old, "Ragioniere", who lived in "via Disciplini, 11".
I'm quite sure that Paolo is this person https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/GP1T-CSL because of his work and his age.
If I'll find other informations of his live, I'll send you.

I hope I've given you something new and usefull

Sergio
