Antonio Criasia's 1810 death

Post by NickAndreola »

Antonio's death is noted (twice) as on 22 Sep 1810 in his daughter Domenica's 1816 marriage documents .

I need some help with the info, but so far it appears he was shot by brigands, can anyone make out more info? His death is not listed in the 'usual' 1810 records for Casalvecchio--so I am unsure where exactly he died?

1816 Processetti left side, begin 3rd line: https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 8/wk8oWg2
1816 Processetti: right side, near bottom https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 38/wQx6gVn

This is what I'm understanding but it may need some tweaking:

Antonio Criasia died in the Selva della Grotte, shot by Brigands, while carrying a letter to General de Camposa?, for the benefit of our town, on 22 September 1810.

The following is the actual marriage record which basically repeats the information except it names the general that the letter was intended for. I’ll post it here in case someone else wants to weigh in later: https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 74/LzR41Vb

You are correct, I think. The name of the General is De Campos.
It says the death is reported in the register of the Parish.

Thanks Angela & Pippo!

Morte nella selva della grotte ---- I get -----Death in the forest of caves, as the least nonsensical translation.

Can't seem to find anything in the Foggia region of Puglia (Casalvecchio di Puglia area) that seems to match up. Do you think that there's any actual place or is it just a generic description of some area out in the country were he encountered the brigands?

Thank you for confirming, Pippo. Yes I saw that it mentioned the death being registered in the Parish and so I looked through the marriage allegati, just in case, but couldn't locate it. I'll look again as my Latin is minus not so good - I may have missed it.

not so far from Casalvecchio.

Great find, Pippo. I searched as well but somehow missed it.

From me and all my cousins descended from Antonio, you guys are the greatest!

Pippo, that location on google maps really helps to add context to this record. I appreciate it very much. 8)
