occupation of Anna Prestia

Post by erudita74 »

I'm having trouble deciphering Anna's occupation at the time of her death-record #232 on left. I know some females in this town had the occupation artigiana, but the beginning letters in this record don't seem to match to me.

I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I could see it being artigiana. A quick A, and then from r to the final a looks fine.

I don't find any other Sicilian occupations that fit. The closest is alpigiano/a, mountaineer.

By the way, Master Erudita, I'm surprised to see you asked for help, as you are so "erudite" in the true sense of the word in English.

Yes, now that I’m more fully awake than I was earlier, I am inclined to agree that the word is artigiana. I see how some of the words like Agosto in the record have a similarly written first letter. I appreciate your input.

Thanks for the compliment, darkerhorse. Sometimes I do need to turn to others for help.
